Die Axt schneidet schnell und leicht in das Holz und spaltet es effektiv dadurch, dass der breitere Teil das Holz auseinander drückt.

Der Stiel verfügt über einen Stielschutz aus Stahl unterhalb des Axtkopfes und runde Einkerbungen am unteren Ende für einen besonders festen Halt. Der Stiel ist in zwei Formen erhältlich, eine kürzere und eine längere Version. Spaltäxte sollten nicht zum Einschlagen eines Keils oder als Keil verwendet werden. Dafür ist nur der Spalthammer vorgesehen. Die Axt wird mit schneidenschutz geliefert.
