Sie wurde am 2. Dezember 1926 in Anwesenheit des damaligen badischen Staatspräsidenten Heinrich Köhler als Nebenbahn eröffnet. Die Bahnhofsgebäude wurden in einem für Schwarzwaldhäuser typischen Baustil errichtet. In den Sommer- und Wintermonaten führt die IG 3-Seenbahn e.V. auf der Dreiseenbahn und der Höllentalbahn Zugfahrten mit historischen Fahrzeugen durch.
