Die STIHL MS 391 ist mit einem Dekompressionsventil ausgestattet, das die Zugkraft am Anwerfseil deutlich reduziert und ein kräftesparendes Starten ermöglicht. Die mengenregulierbare Ölpumpe sorgt für eine bedarfsgerechte Förderung der Ölmenge, wodurch eine optimierte Schmierung bei sehr langen Schneidgarnituren oder trockenem Holz erreicht wird und der Ölverbrauch in anderen Situationen reduziert werden kann. Das STIHL Ematic-System gewährleistet, dass jeder Tropfen Öl gezielt dorthin gelangt, wo er benötigt wird.

Die MS 391 verfügt über eine Vorabscheidung, die grobe Schmutzpartikel entfernt und somit den eigentlichen Filter entlastet.
