Nase und Gaumen:

In der Nase komplexe Frische: Kampot-Pfeffer, eine fast„funkelnde“ (vulkanische?) Rauchnote, weiße und violette Blüten, Kirschfrucht, Blutorangenschale und Herzkirschen und Hagebutten. Am Gaumen straff, präzise, grandios strukturiert, geradezu beängstigend schön. Eine zwischen floralen und „mineralischen“ stetig changierende Aromatik, dabei immer wieder pfeffrig-rauchige Elemente, deren Kühle in ihrer Eleganz vielleicht noch von den wie mit dem Silberstift gezeichneten Tanninen übertroffen wird. Ein Wein wie kein anderer – jeder Vergleich wäre müßig!

Infos zum Wein:

Der jüngst noch als „Parcela Margalagua“ etikettierte Parzellenwein markiert eindeutig die qualitative und auch stilistische Spitze der Teneriffa- bzw. Táganan-Weine der „fantastischen Vier“ von Envínate. Mit geradezu beängstigender Konstanz haben sie hier, im „wilden Außen“ einen Wein „entwickelt“, der nicht nur unbedingt zu den besten, zu den erstaunlichsten Weinen Spaniens zählt, sondern auch Geschichte in diesem an historia del vino nicht eben armen Land geschrieben hat!
Man muss sich nur einmal die Bewertungen von Luis Gutiérrez im Wine Advocate vor Augen führen: 2012 – 93 Punkte, 2013 – 94, 2014 – 95, 2015 – 96, 2016 – 96+, 2017 – 97 und schließlich 98 Punkte für den Jahrgang 2018, der mit 98 Punkten jüngst durch den 2020er mit 99 Punkten abgelöst wurde. Das Kartenwerk der größten Weine Spaniens ist in kürzester Zeit um das Messtischblatt „Kanarische Inseln“ erweitert worden. Und in diesem Fall um einen gemischten Satz (annähernd 90 % rote Rebsorten, darunter Negramoll, Listán Negro, Listán Prieto, Baboso und Malvasia Negra, dazu die weiße Listán Blanco) aus der besagten Parzelle „Margalagua“, was auf Guanche soviel wie „Mutter des Wassers“ bedeutet. Die Reben wachsen hier wild auf dem Boden, sind über 100 Jahre alt und wurzelecht. Die Vinifikation der nicht entrappten Trauben erfolgt in kleinen offenen Behältnissen (angequetscht mit den Füßen), die malolaktische Gärung findet in neutralen französischen Fässern statt, danach reift der Wein in denselben Fässern ohne jegliche bâtonnage oder Zugabe von Schwefel.

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
