BK7 und BAK4 beziehen sich auf den Typ des Glases welches für die Prismen verwendet wird. Die Prismen beugen das Licht Bild im Inneren des Fernglases. BK7 ist Borosilikatglas und BAK4 Bariumcrownglas. Die Art des Glases beeinflusst die Schärfe und Klarheit des Bildes, BAK4 erzeugt die besten Bilder mit einer vernachlässigbaren Verzerrung, während bei BK7 ein ganz leicht verzerrten Bild entstehen kann.
