The core of Port Royal is “push your luck”: turn over cards in search of the richest ship possible. The more cards you turn over, the greater the chance that you will be defeated by a second ship of the same color. If you succeed, you claim gold, which you can use to recruit characters. Sailors chase away unwanted ships, colonists help with expeditions and special characters such as the damsel and the paljas provide numerous benefits. Thanks to the expansions, Port Royal can be played both against each other and cooperatively. With the expansions, players can also opt for short individual games or a longer campaign.
