"As always, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is all Grenache from the Cristia Haut Lieu-dit that was brought up in 30% new demi-muid. It shows more classic Grenache characteristics in its black raspberry, crushed violets, pepper, and garrigue aromas and flavors. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, concentrated wine that strays straight and focused, with beautiful tension and elegance."

In der Nase reife rote Fruchtaromen mit Noten von Lakritz, karamellisiertem Fleisch, Schokolade und gerösteten Kräutern. Am Gaumen konzentriert, kraftvoll und explosiv mit Noten von Herzkirschen, reifen schwarzen Beeren (Walderdbeere, Waldhimbeere), Lakritz und einem Hauch Fleur de Sel. Schöne Textur und große Spannung im langen Nachhall. Ein grandioser Wein.
Ausbau
18 Monate in Barriques gereift. Der Wein ist nicht filtiert.

Das Weingut
Das Weingut umfasst wurde 1942 von Etienne Grangeon gegründet. Seit 1999 wird es in der 3. Familiengeneration von den Geschwistern Baptiste und Dominique Grangeon geführt und zählt heute zu den Spitzenweingütern im Châteauneuf. Der sexy, sinnliche Stil der Weine ist wohlbekannt. Selbst in ihren Basisweinen gelingt es den Geschwistern, diesen Stil beizubehalten. Dies liegt an der besonderen Qualität ihrer Grenache-Trauben. Ein Geheimtipp ist der enorm konzentrierte Côtes-du-Rhône Vieilles Vignes. Mit diesem Wein zeigt das Weingut eindrucksvoll, was es auch bei kleinen Preisen zu leisten imstande ist. Eine Besonderheit ist der Châteauneuf-du-Pape Renaissance von 1,5 ha Rebfläche mit 60% Grenache (110 Jahre alt) und 40% Mourvèdre. Das Weingut ist seit dem Jahrgang 2008 ECOCERT-zertifiziert.
