The game starts with the selection of our ship. You have the choice between a fast and agile but fragile ship; a well-balanced ship if you want to play it safe; and a heavy and slow but strong ship.

With our ship we will try to become the most famous and well-known captain of all seven seas and conquer a place in history. How? We can transform our ship into a fearsome ship and plunder ships, or into the fastest sailboat ever invented. We will be able to trade on the market to get doubloons, expand our crew, improve our weapons and cargo capacity, participate in a mission and receive rewards, explore the ocean in search of treasure, fight against or with others, and above all, gain wealth. At the end of the day, it's a sandbox board game, so you set the limits.

Throughout the game we will make contact with other ships piloted by our friends (although we know that in a board game it is better not to rely on friendships). As we explore the map, we will see other ships from the different nations appear in the game. These are Spain, Netherlands, France, England, and pirates and privateers. During the game you can decide whether you want to join one of these nations, which will give you several benefits. However, nothing in life comes for free and your actions may make you enemies with some other nations, causing their ships to come after you and try to sink you in the ocean.

Can you be a pirate and become an ally of another nation? Naturally! You will sign a letter of marque with that nation and you will become a privateer/pirate. This way you can make mischief, but be loyal to the other nation and leave their ships alone.

As the game progresses, the sea and wind may not always be in your favor, a storm may surprise you. What if the wind suddenly stops or there is a low tide? We must be ready to deal with both our enemies and the ever-changing weather.
