Geschichte: Kastenförmige Sitzbank mit Rückenlehne, Armlehnen und zu öffnendem Deckel, bekannt seit dem 16. Jahrhundert.

Die Schlagbank war bis ca. 1900 in dänischen Bauernhäusern üblich. Seinen Platz hatte er meist im Wohnzimmer, wo er als Schlafplatz für einen Erwachsenen, oft das Dienstmädchen, oder 2-3 Kinder diente.

Tagsüber fungierte es als gewöhnliche Bank. Später wurden auch Schlagbänke ohne Auszüge gesehen, z.B. als Kindermöbel.
