Alan Mann fuhr in den 1960er Jahren Limousinen- und Tourenwagenrennen und wurde später in den frühen 1970er Jahren Rennteammanager. Alan Mann war in dieser Zeit für seine Treue zu Ford bekannt, und die unverwechselbaren Teamfarben Gold und Rot von Alan Mann Racing ziehen bis heute die Aufmerksamkeit bei historischen Rennveranstaltungen auf sich. 1965 feierte Sir John Whitmore im Alan Mann Ford Lotus-Cortina eine außergewöhnliche Reihe von Rennerfolgen. Er gewann 1965 die Tourenwagen-Europameisterschaft und gewann seine Klasse in jedem Rennen, an dem er teilnahm. 1968 fuhr Frank Gardner (dreimaliger BTCC Champion und zweifacher Formel-5000-Champion) den Alan Mann Racing Ford Escort in der BTCC-Meisterschaft.
