Sicherheits- und Warnhinweise
FI-Schutzschalter (Fehlerstromschutzschalter) dienen dem Schutz von Personen und Anlagen vor gefährlichen Fehlerströmen. Sie schützen vor elektrischen Schlägen und reduzieren das Risiko von Bränden durch Fehlerströme. Eine unsachgemäße Installation oder Bedienung kann jedoch zu Ausfällen oder Gefahren führen. Nachfolgend sind die wichtigsten Warn- und Sicherheitshinweise für FI-Schutzschalter aufgeführt.
Allgemeine Hinweise
- Normen und Vorschriften:
- FI-Schutzschalter müssen gemäß DIN EN 61008-1 oder DIN EN 61009-1 (FI/LS) installiert werden.
- Fachgerechte Installation:
- Der Einbau und Anschluss dürfen nur durch qualifiziertes Fachpersonal erfolgen.
- Einsatzbereiche:
- FI-Schutzschalter werden für Personenschutz, Geräteschutz und Brandschutz eingesetzt und sind in Wohn-, Gewerbe- und Industrieanlagen verpflichtend.
Auswahl des richtigen FI-Schutzschalters
- Gefahren und Hinweise:
- Bemessungsfehlerstrom:
- Der Bemessungsfehlerstrom muss auf den Anwendungszweck abgestimmt sein:
- 30 mA: Personenschutz (Standard in Wohngebäuden).
- 10 mA: Zusätzlicher Schutz, z. B. in Kindergärten.
- 300 mA: Brandschutz oder Schutz in größeren Anlagen.
- Typ des FI-Schalters:
- Der Typ richtet sich nach der Art der Fehlerströme:
- Typ AC: Für reine Wechselströme.
- Typ A: Für pulsierende Gleichfehlerströme (Standard in vielen Installationen).
- Typ B: Für glatte Gleichfehlerströme (z. B. in PV-Anlagen, Ladeeinrichtungen für Elektrofahrzeuge).
- Typ F: Für Geräte mit frequenzgesteuerten Antrieben.
- Nennstrom:
- Der FI-Schutzschalter muss zum Nennstrom des angeschlossenen Stromkreises passen.
- Netzsystem:
- Sicherstellen, dass der FI-Schutzschalter für das vorhandene Netzsystem geeignet ist (TN, TT, IT).
Montage und Anschluss
- Gefahren und Hinweise:
- Spannungsfreiheit sicherstellen:
- Vor Beginn der Arbeiten die Spannungsfreiheit des Stromkreises prüfen und gegen Wiedereinschalten sichern.
- Richtige Verdrahtung:
- Den Neutralleiter (N) und die Außenleiter (L) korrekt anschließen. Verwechselungen können den FI-Schutzschalter funktionsunfähig machen.
- Einbauposition:
- Der FI-Schutzschalter muss sicher auf der Hutschiene montiert werden.
- Selektivität beachten:
- Bei mehreren FI-Schaltern in einer Installation auf selektive Abstimmung achten, um unerwünschtes Auslösen zu verhindern.
Funktion und Betrieb
- Gefahren und Hinweise:
- Fehlerstromschutz:
- Der FI-Schutzschalter erkennt Fehlerströme und schaltet den betroffenen Stromkreis innerhalb von Millisekunden ab.
- Prüftaste regelmäßig betätigen:
- Mindestens alle 6 Monate die Prüftaste drücken, um die korrekte Funktion des FI-Schalters sicherzustellen.
- Auslösung kontrollieren:
- Bei einer Auslösung muss die Ursache des Fehlerstroms ermittelt und behoben werden, bevor der Schalter wieder eingeschaltet wird.
- Ausfallsicherheit:
- Bei wichtigen Stromkreisen (z. B. Kühlgeräte) auf spezielle FI-Schalter mit verzögerter Auslösung zurückgreifen.
Schutz vor Fehlerströmen
- Gefahren und Hinweise:
- Personenschutz:
- Ein Bemessungsfehlerstrom von maximal 30 mA ist gesetzlich vorgeschrieben für Stromkreise, die Steckdosen oder Außenbereiche absichern.
- Brandschutz:
- FI-Schutzschalter mit 300 mA werden in größeren Anlagen eingesetzt, um Fehlerströme zu erkennen, die zu Bränden führen können.
- Geräteschutz:
- Typen A, B oder F verwenden, um Fehlerströme von Geräten sicher zu erfassen.
Arbeitssicherheit
- Schutzkleidung:
- Tragen Sie isolierende Handschuhe und Schutzbrillen bei Arbeiten an elektrischen Anlagen.
- Werkzeuge:
- Verwenden Sie nur isolierte Werkzeuge, die für Arbeiten an Elektroinstallationen geeignet sind.
- Gefahr durch Rückspannung:

- FI-Schutzschalter müssen mit den übrigen Schutzeinrichtungen der Anlage kompatibel sein (z. B. Leitungsschutzschalter, Überspannungsschutz).
- Ersatz nur durch identische Modelle:
- Defekte FI-Schutzschalter dürfen nur durch baugleiche oder vom Hersteller empfohlene Modelle ersetzt werden.
- Dokumentation:
- Installation und Testergebnisse dokumentieren, insbesondere bei gewerblichen Anlagen.
- Ein korrekt ausgewählter und installierter FI-Schutzschalter bietet zuverlässigen Schutz vor Fehlerströmen und erhöht die Sicherheit in elektrischen Anlagen. Thought provoking

Sky Full of Elephants is a work of speculative fiction that begins with the premise that the white population of the United States has been wiped out. Starting a year after “the event” and following Charlie, a man who spent 20 years in prison due to a cowardly lie, and his resentful, biracial 19 year old daughter, who witnessed her only known family drown themselves, it is at its core a quest for identity in its many forms and how trauma can co-opt that search. In rating and reviewing this book, I’m aware that my lens as a Gen-X, cis-het, white woman, will have a differing view from others’ lived experiences. In reading other reviews, I definitely saw points that I didn’t consider, which I hope is the main point of the book. I do think, as a work of speculative fiction, that it does require the suspension of disbelief from the get go. It is a philosophical “what if” that Mr. Campbell invites the reader to consider.
Intrigued by the premise, I was drawn into the story due to Mr. Campbell’s lyrical writing style. The narrative had a rhythmical flow to it that supported the world building and characterizations. I found Charlie to be a very sympathetic character, rebuilding a life shattered by lies in a new world and confronted with the daughter he never had a chance to know. Sydney, Charlie’s daughter, was more of a struggle to empathize with. While her feelings were justified and understandable, her growth throughout the novel was erratic. As the story has an ambiguous ending, perhaps her character will continue to improve. For supporting cast, the grumpy pilot Sailor and his nonbinary child, Zu, offer a counterpoint to Charlie and Sidney’s emerging relationship. The king and queen of Alabama and the thriving town of Mobile were well fleshed out. The Walkers and Sidney’s Aunt Agatha in Orange Beach represented those who were lost in their own way, either due to clinging to their former proximity to whiteness or to the religious biases they were raised with. I found the Walkers to be the most tragic of all.
The questions of identity throughout the story are what kept be invested throughout. Are we defined by the color of our skin, our behaviors, the groups we belong to, the choices we make? Are others more valuable or worthy who don’t suffer the same things we do? Does there have to be those that are “lesser” to make us feel whole? As a trauma survivor with C-PTSD, I struggle with my own issues of identity and worthiness, and as a former Special Education teacher, I’ve been witness to that struggle in others. I have never understood or accepted the idea of White Supremacy or Christian Supremacy or any of the myriad ways that humanity continues to other each of us. In reality, there is no “us” or “them” only”we”. Charlie questions who he is as a Black man in the US, a convict, a teacher, a father, and ultimately a fixer and healer. Sidney grapples with her biracial otherness, her wealthy upbringing and sheltered life, the trauma of abandonment, and the lies that her life was built on.
The ethical question of the machine at the epicenter of the event adds another layer to the story. While the effects of the first usage were unintended, once they were known is it right to continue to fix it and use it again? Can healing a part of collectiveness that harms or destroys another part ultimately be worth the cost? The world and its people are broken and desperately need healing. But just like the question of eugenics, what of value is lost when specific traits are universally stripped away? And who gets the to decide what is of value anyway? The ambiguity of the ending doesn’t answer the question entirely of what happens when the machine is repaired, but Charlie’s ability to fix things leads me hopeful. Personally, I cared enough about these characters to be interested in a sequel.

The Possibilities
Format: Kindle
Despite its potential, this book ultimately failed to resonate with me. I found myself repeatedly compelled to put it down, as the focus on the empowerment aspect was overshadowed by the narrative’s preoccupation with re-triggering ourselves through the perpetuation of a harmful lie. This lie, which has tragically cost many Black men their lives and livelihoods, diverted our attention from the more profound themes of rebuilding culture, redefining ourselves, and creating a new world. Instead of exploring the possibility of a beautiful utopia, we were subjected to a process of de-centering ourselves and centering them, their likeness, and the relentless pursuit of proving our worth. While there were indeed wise words that moved me, I was left questioning the purpose of dedicating so much time to those who did not share our sentiments. Who are these individuals who required our convincing, and who are we who felt compelled to do so? I found Sydney, her family, and the inhabitants of Orange Beach to be unlikable characters. I fear that the plot was compromised when the focus shifted to inclusion.

Wow! Loved it!

Wow, I don't even know what to say about this book, but well done. I was a little bit mystified in the beginning. Our FMC and MMC definitely had me feeling a specific sort of way. A father, who was released from prison after "The Event" where all the white people in the Nation killed themselves, struggles with his identity. His daughter, Sidney, a biracial young adult who was raised by her white family, struggles with the fact that things she was taught were not necessarily true, and finds it hard to connect to her blackness. This is a tumultuous story of a beautifully written adaptation to an entirely new way of life. I didn't necessarily agree with certain ideations of the author, who in his book, claimed that there was a lost feeling after "The Event," but that's just personal experience, and I think that many black people would adapt. This book brings up so many feelings. How would I feel if "The Event" happened? Now that the "system" is dismantled? This book brings up dialogue and conversation. Amazingly well done. I'm still pondering. I know that this will be something I think about often. Wow.
Very seldom do I tear up at books, but the representation of black joy in this story genuinely made my heart feel full. The love that when black people come together with nothing but amazing energy, was described so adequately in this book. I could feel it myself. And to that, I have to applaud Cebo Campbell.
