Holley war als Bassist dafür bekannt, sein Solo-Spiel (mit dem Bogen) durch gleichzeitigen Unisono-Scat-Gesang zu begleiten, was er nach eigenen Angaben von Slam Stewart übernahm, (aber nicht eine Oktave höher wie Slam Stewart).
