Ursprünglich wurde sie unter der Bezeichnung OG-107 – „OG“ für Olive Green, „107“ für den offiziellen Farbcode der US-Armee – an amerikanische Soldaten während der Vietnam-Ära ausgegeben. Von dort fand sie schnell ihren Weg in die Pop- und Gegenkultur.
