A visual field guide to what we ought to know how to do, and what we'd like to learn how to do, from beloved craftsmanship-focused online shop Kaufmann Mercantile.

Kaufmann Mercantile thoughtfully curates and sells timeless products for slow living, with a focus on functionality, quality, and craftsmanship. Building from that philosophy, The Kaufmann Mercantile Guide is an everyday, accessible reference book for the utilitarian in all of us.

In this comprehensive field guide to life, editors Alexandra Redgrave and Jessica Hundley share Kaufmann Mercantile's collective expertise on 48 helpful life skills that range from what we ought to know how to do, from frying an egg to tying a tie to brewing coffee, to what we'd like to learn how to do, like splitting wood, building a fire, growing our own food, or shucking an oyster.

Organized into five instructional sections (Kitchen, Outdoors, Home, Garden, and Grooming), each is prefaced by an expert and includes original artwork to visually walk you through each "how-to" step. Supplemental sidebars feature the best tool for the job, whether it's a dibber for planting, the best rawhide-and-ash snowshoes, or flammable smoking bags for making authentic BBQ.

This guidebook is a well-considered collection of how-to's, perfect for anyone who wants to live a slow and thoughtful life, or a gift for someone who does.

Dog loves it.
Color: Con Leche
I use this tugger for training only. I use it to ween off treats as a reward as a playful tool. He associates it with this and this way it retains high value.

Nice appearance, lacks sturdiness in the long run
Color: Raven
Decent quality on the surface, but likely to eventually break down with aggressive tuggers or strong jawed dogs. Best for medium drive pups at best.

does not last for a chew toy
Color: Raven
did not take very long for the dog to chew this up. Even wrote to Olly Dog about the toy and never heard back from them.

Excellent quality, larger than expected, machine washable
Color: Magnolia, Color: Magnolia
It's my fault for not realizing this toy is almost as long as my 7lbs papillon lol. He is not sure what to do with it right now but having a good time trying to figure it out. I thought he and his sister would love to play with it together, but it's much firmer than I expected. This is great news for larger dogs! It is a great quality toy. It's ethically made with recycled materials by a company in Colorado and manufactured in Vietnam. It's machine washable. It's a good value and should last for a long time (even with larger dogs). It's not too heavy, but due to its size, it may not be the greatest choice for toy dogs or small puppies. Oh, and it's bright colors and pattern look awesome. My little guy is an aggressive chewer for his size and is quite toy protective, so he has already claimed this as HIS as I'm writing this. He is having fun scratching the material it's made of, chewing it, rolling around with it, carrying it around, and keeping it away from his sister (also a papillon). So, we're happy over here.
