Totem Bison Centre Speaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Bison Centre is a 2-way centre channel speaker from Totem Acoustic (Montreal, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Handcrafted in Canada and engineered as the dedicated dialogue anchor of the Bison Series, it pairs a custom 5.25-inch copper-clad voice coil woofer with a 1.3-inch laser-etched textile dome tweeter, delivering a frequency response of 42 Hz to 21 kHz at 90 dB sensitivity. Sized at just 22.64 inches wide, the Bison Centre slots into virtually any AV furniture, TV console, or wall-mount setup without compromise. Its Lock-Miter monocoque cabinet construction, Borosilicate damping layers, handmade WBT-silver-solder crossovers, and proprietary phase-coherent driver design reflect the same artisanal standard that defines every speaker in Totem's Bison lineup.

Canadian Craftsmanship and Lock-Miter Cabinet Construction

The Bison Centre is built entirely in Canada, and its cabinet reflects decades of Totem Acoustic's accumulated knowledge in resonance control. The Lock-Miter joint technique creates a cabinet that is four times more rigid than standard V-groove assembly, with a substantially enlarged gluing surface that resists expansion and contraction across decades of use without any degradation in sonic performance. Full internal cross-bracing reinforces the monocoque shell further, while multiple layers of Borosilicate damping material suppress internal coloration at the source. The result is an enclosure that stays acoustically neutral across its entire lifespan, letting the drivers and crossover do exactly what Totem designed them to do.

Proprietary Drivers, Phase-Coherent Crossover Design, and Bi-Wire Terminals

Totem engineered the Bison Centre's 5.25-inch woofer in-house, specifying proprietary magnetics and voice coil geometry that are manufactured to Totem's exact tolerances by select raw driver suppliers. The 1.3-inch laser-etched textile soft dome tweeter is neodymium magnet-activated and matched to a first-order crossover point at 2.5 kHz, handmade using WBT silver solder for signal purity. The phase-coherent design ensures that the woofer and tweeter arrive at the listening position in precise time alignment, preserving the micro-dynamic nuances that make dialogue intelligible and music emotionally coherent. Four-way bi-wireable gold-plated terminals support bare wire, banana plugs, and spades, enabling bi-amping or bi-wiring configurations for audiophile-grade multi-channel builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Totem Bison Centre Speaker?

The Totem Bison Centre is a ported 2-way centre channel speaker made in Canada by Totem Acoustic, Montreal. It features a custom 5.25-inch copper-clad voice coil woofer and a 1.3-inch laser-etched textile soft dome tweeter, covering a frequency range of 42 Hz to 21 kHz at 90 dB sensitivity. At 22.64 inches wide and 6.3 inches tall, it is designed to anchor dialogue and on-screen sound in dedicated home theater and multi-channel audio systems.

How does the Totem Bison Centre compare to the KEF Q250c or Klipsch RP-504C?

The Totem Bison Centre is positioned as an artisanal alternative to mass-market centre speakers like the KEF Q250c and Klipsch RP-504C. Where the RP-504C uses Klipsch's Tractrix Horn loading for high efficiency and forward projection, the Bison Centre relies on a phase-coherent first-order crossover and proprietary neodymium-activated dome tweeter for a smoother, more neutral presentation. Compared to the KEF Q250c, which uses KEF's coaxial Uni-Q driver for point-source imaging, the Bison Centre's matched Bison Series DNA gives it a distinct timbre-consistency advantage when paired with Bison Monitor or Tower speakers. Its Lock-Miter cabinet construction and WBT silver-solder handmade crossovers represent a higher level of build craftsmanship than either competitor at a comparable size.

Can the Totem Bison Centre be wall-mounted or placed on a console below a TV?

Yes, the Bison Centre is designed specifically for flexible placement in home theater rooms. Its compact 6.3-inch height makes it easy to place on a shelf inside AV furniture, on top of a TV console, or on a surface directly below a wall-mounted television without obscuring the screen. No dedicated stand or wall bracket is included, so placement on a flat surface or existing AV shelf is the intended installation method.

What is Lock-Miter cabinet construction and why does it matter?

Lock-Miter is a precision woodworking joint technique that Totem Acoustic uses in all Bison Series cabinets. It creates a cabinet that is four times more rigid than standard V-groove panel assembly, with a significantly larger gluing contact surface between panels. This rigidity prevents the cabinet walls from vibrating sympathetically with the drivers, which would otherwise color the sound and degrade imaging. Combined with internal cross-bracing and Borosilicate damping material, Lock-Miter construction ensures that the cabinet itself remains acoustically inert across decades of normal use.

Is the Totem Bison Centre compatible with the Bison Tower and Bison Monitor speakers for a full surround system?

Yes, the Bison Centre is specifically designed to integrate with all other speakers in Totem's Bison Series. It shares the same 5.25-inch proprietary woofer, 1.3-inch laser-etched textile dome tweeter, handmade crossover topology, and Lock-Miter cabinet construction as the Bison Monitor and Bison Tower. This means the tonal character, dynamic behavior, and imaging style remain consistent between the front left, right, and center channels, which is critical for convincing surround sound and seamless panning across the soundstage.

What amplifier power does the Totem Bison Centre require?

The Bison Centre is rated for 30 to 150 watts of amplifier power at 6 ohms nominal impedance and 90 dB sensitivity. Its sensitivity rating means it reaches usable listening levels without a high-powered amplifier, making it compatible with AV receivers from brands such as Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, and NAD in the 60 to 100-watt per channel range. For home theater systems requiring more dynamic headroom, the bi-wire and bi-amp terminal configuration allows the woofer and tweeter sections to be driven independently for improved channel separation.

Purchasing from an authorized Canadian dealer ensures full manufacturer warranty coverage and access to Totem Acoustic's Canadian support network.

Well Constructed Toy But Short-Life Squeaker
Color: Gray, Size: 8 IN
Super cute and durable toy. Makes a "grunting" noise that my dog loves. However rating a little lower because my dog has only been playing with it (gently) for a couple weeks and the grunting noise is starting to die. But she does really like this toy regardless!

Cute and soft dog toy!
Color: Gray, Size: 8 IN
This very cute armadillo dog toy is nice and soft for our Golden Retriever to carry around in his mouth. He eventually likes to pull off the legs, ears, or anything else extending from the body of the toy and so far he hasn’t been able to do so with this one. Not saying that it’s not possible, so as with any toy, you should monitor your dog playing with it as we definitely have to. He also likes to continually make his toys squeak and this toy’s squeaker works very well!

Great Toy for tiny to giant pups
Color: Gray, Size: 8 IN
Cute Amarillo. My teacup Yorkie uses it as a pillow or chases and attacks it. Well stretched does not easily fall apart. Good value for the money. Suitable for all sized dogs.

Fun dog toy, but not for heavy chewers
Color: Pink, Size: 14 IN
The armadillo is cute. My pittie, Sasha, was very excited to see it. She just had TPLO surgery on her left knee (she tore her ACL just before the 4th of July), and I wanted to get her something she could play with while she convalesces, that isn't a ball—she really likes to run and jump and chase the ball, but with her knee out of commission, I didn't want her to get depressed being trapped in her crate while she heals—with this toy, she was able to keep playing and not over excert herself and get more hurt. It quickly became her favorite toy; she chews it relentlessly and gets made when I take it from her (see below). It makes a funky squeak that's not a high-pitched squeak, like I thought it would be; it's more a low-pitched, lowing sound like a baby calf. One thing I would like to point out to other purchasers about what the description says: "Durable and Long Lasting - Made from premium soft materials, our cute plush dog toys can withstand rough play for indoor or outdoor and last for years to come. The textured surface also helps massage and soothe your dog's gums during playtime" This is a little misleading. It's a good texture and Sasha loved to play with it, but it wasn't very durable. It might be when compared to other chew toys, but not for my baby. She tore the nose off within 20 minutes of getting it. The next morning, she ripped off an ear, and I had to pull the stuffing out of the face so she wouldn't eat it while chewing away. She doesn't seem to mind, but I sure wish it had held up a little more. All-in-all, this was a good toy for a few days.

Cute durable dog toy that my puppy loves
Color: Blue, Size: 8 IN
This small light weight dog toy is very durable, super cute, and my dog loves it. My dog tears everything up but he hasn't made a dent in this; very durable and chew resistant. He seems to really like that it makes a lower squeak noise. I threw this in my cart at the last minute before checkout and I am pleasantly surprised with the quality. I would say this toy is worth the price; suitable for small to medium sized dog.
