The golden brown crown is just so conspicuous in a background of blue and shined on by the sun’s piercing ray in the distance. The size of this creature is not so obvious with how it is in a preferred solitary floating state.

The lion’s mane jellyfish is actually one of the largest jellyfish in the world, and may have the longest tentacles of all. Their tentacles are probably their most impressive feature, as they can grow as long as 120 feet, and they can have more than 1000 tentacles. Like an octopus, these tentacles are divided into 8 clusters off their soft bodies.

I got to see my first Lion’s Mane, and I could not take my eyes off this beauty as it slowly moved with the currents, it’s labyrinth of tentacles drifting down into the darkness and out of sight. It’s so curious to see the small fish that call this jelly home, travelling through the vast open ocean together.
