A group of people haul a wide net in from the shallows, working together, leaning back, pulling hard, the kind of communal fishing scene that has played out on beaches like this for generations. The sky is blue. The trees are lush. The light is the particular golden warmth of a 1960s vintage travel photograph taken somewhere you immediately want to be.
Rising from the centre of the net, from the turquoise water, where the catch should be a giant hand, one finger extended skyward. The fishermen are not alarmed. They are still hauling. This is, apparently, what came up today.
Fish Fingers works on every level simultaneously. The vintage tropical photography is so warm and inviting that the gesture arrives as a complete surprise, and then you read it two ways at once, both readings are correct, both are funnier for the other existing. The pun lands. The irony lands harder. The paradise setting makes the irreverence perfect.
