Myrtle Beaches first passenger and freight station was constructed by Myrtle Beach Farms Company (Burroughs and Chapin Co.) and turned over to Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Co. amid much fanfare on May 6, 1937. The rails served as a lifeline to the early Grand Strand by not only delivering needed goods and supplies, but our first tourist as well. But by the early 1960’s better roads and air transportation to the area took its toll on the Depot. At that time, the late Sonny Stevens, owner of the Stevens Corporation (beverage distributor), bought the closed station and utilized it for storage purposes, for which it had been used till 2001. Now, thanks to concerned businessmen, Jimmy Lathan and several others, the old Myrtle Beach Train Depot dodged the wrecking ball to be refurbished and serve again as a lifeline to the past... as a museum.
