The Console Table Cadwalader takes its inspiration from a remarkable 18th-century American table in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art once owned by General John Cadwalader (1742–1786), a prominent Revolutionary War–era figure in Philadelphia. The original table—likely created by a London-trained carver newly arrived in America—combines the fluid ornamentation of the French Rococo style with the naturalistic precision of English carving.
