While achieving a natural appearance, Stain Shield is effective for applications where oil, stain, and water repellency is desired to reduce undesired discoloration, cracking, freeze / thaw damage, chemical degradation, biological growth, efflorescence and dirt pickup.
This Sealer works best with all of our Venetian Plaster Lime based and Concrete look White series when tinted to darker shades. The concentrated pigments react with most of the penetrating sealers on the market and create a white haze in places that can damage and lighten the appearance of your plaster.
With certain colors the sealer can darken areas if you really saturate the plaster with sealer. The biggest mistake is applying the sealer with a brush on the edges and around lights etc and then rolling other areas. You can end up with dark outlines due to the brush adding far more sealer than the roller. It is best to use a sponge or roller for the entire application and protect the walls and ceilings with tape and brown paper to ensure an even application that allows you to roll right to the edges with a micro roller etc. If you find that there are uneven areas, you can wash the areas down with a wet rag and allow to dry, followed by some light burnishing to blend the colors together again or burnish while still wet. You can also add some extra sealer to places to darken those areas and provide a more even look if required, working slowly to achieve your final effect.
