Artist's inspiration:  There’s something comforting about the humble bagel—its chewy texture, golden crust, and the simple pleasure of spreading it with cream cheese. This painting celebrates that quiet joy.

The inspiration came from an art challenge to create a piece based on a favourite book or magazine. I immediately thought of Artisan Breads Every Day by Peter Reinhart, a well-loved staple in my kitchen. Reinhart’s recipes have guided many of my baking adventures over the years, and this book has become a source of both nourishment and creativity.

Through this still life, I wanted to capture not just the form and texture of freshly baked bagels, but the warmth and homeliness they represent. It’s a quiet tribute to the intersection of food and art—both made with care, both meant to be shared.
