- This hand carved figure displays abstract and minimalist features and form in a folk art style of carving classically known as "Laos Style".
- Material is wood with gold leaf and lacquer still intact in places.
- The figure shows signs of long term devotional use, care and age.
- Approx. 11" tall x 4 3/4" wide x 2 3/4" deep. Measurements include a custom iron base on which the figure is mounted.
- The Buddha is seated in the "Calling Earth to Witness the Defeat of Evil" Posture. With fingers slightly touching the ground, this position represents the Subduing of Mara the Evil One. The demon Mara in Buddhism is sometimes called Kama-Mara which means desire and death and has parallels with Greek mythology as well as psychology in Eros-Thanatos.
- Mara assaulted and bombarded The Buddha with demons, monsters, violent storms and finally the three seductive daughters. In some accounts of The Buddha's Enlightenment, it is said that the demon Māra didn't send his three daughters to tempt but instead they came willingly after Māra's set back in his endeavor to eliminate the Buddha's quest for enlightenment. Mara's three daughters are identified as Taṇhā (Craving), Arati (Aversion/ Discontentment), and Raga (Attachment/ Desire/ Greed/ Passion).
- Remaining steadfast in His Meditation, The Buddha touched the earth and called the Earth Goddess, Mae Thorani to Witness to the Strength of His Meditation and Achievement of Enlightenment.

Good shelves for the price can be challenging to install correctly

Good quality shelves for the price. Happy with the purchase. They give you assorted hardware to mount each shelf. Wall anchors for masonry or brick and anchors for drywall as well as screws to affix shelf to the wall bracket. The installation was fairly easy but it can be a bit difficult to get the bracket leveled on the wall. The “level” they give you is useless, it is only the tube - not in a housing, so 1 1/2” long. You will need a better level. Basically you place the bracket where you want the shelf to go then make sure it is level and take a pencil to mark the holes. We ended up using a heavier quality wall anchor so only needed 2 anchors instead of the four they send you. Once the bracket is on, slide the shelf onto the bars coming from the bracket and use the 2 set screws to secure it in place. Check for level and if it isn’t you can remove shelf and loosen bracket screws and wiggle the bracket while still attached while retightening screws. We had to re-level one of our shelves this way. Hope this helps and that it makes sense. As for weight capacity I wouldn’t want to put more than a couple of pounds on a shelf. As it is secure, it is hollow inside and too much weight would probably either cause the shelf to sag or damage your wall

Great shelves

Easy to assemble and comes with everything you need for drywall or wood. Nice color and texture and comes with stickers to hide the holes underneath. I bought two sets of three. These are very long, so I recommend just using two at a time.
