A Diatonic Recorder for Waldorf Classroom and Ensemble Music

The Mollenhauer Waldorf Edition Diatonic Recorder is a soprano recorder designed for classroom music-making and ensemble work in Waldorf and other group-based music settings. Crafted from pear wood and tuned to A = 442 Hz, this recorder offers a full diatonic range with baroque fingering, supporting a broader musical repertoire while maintaining a warm, blended ensemble sound.

Built on the same wide-bore, Renaissance-style design as the Waldorf Edition pentatonic recorder, this instrument emphasizes tone blending, reliable response, and secure fingering—qualities especially valued in classroom instruction and group lessons.

Diatonic Range with Baroque Fingering

This recorder features baroque fingering and a fully diatonic scale, allowing access to half steps and a wider range of tonal expression than pentatonic instruments.

  • Baroque fingering supports accurate intonation and musical flexibility
  • Diatonic range enables expanded melodic and harmonic work
  • Suitable for both ensemble playing and developing solo passages

The recorder has a range of c'' – d'''', offering more than two octaves of expressive potential.

Designed for Ensemble Blending and Classroom Use

Modeled after Van Eyck Renaissance-style recorders, the Waldorf Edition diatonic recorder features:

  • A wide internal bore for a rich, blended ensemble sound
  • Easy response to support developing breath control
  • Distinctive, easy-to-feel finger holes for secure placement
  • Ergonomic shaping that supports relaxed posture and hand position

These characteristics make it especially well suited for group music instruction, where consistency of tone and blend are essential.

Tuning and Teacher Guidance

This recorder is tuned to A = 442 Hz, the standard tuning used in European classroom and ensemble settings, including Waldorf schools.

👉 If your child is enrolled in a school music program, we recommend confirming recorder requirements with the music teacher before ordering.

Because wooden wind instruments are not sealed and cannot be hygienically sanitized without damaging the wood, all wooden wind instruments are final sale once sold. This policy helps preserve the integrity of our instruments and the health and safety of our customers.

Cute but flimsy soles
Size: 9-12 Months Infant, Color: Mariposa Light Pink Leather, Size: 9-12 Months Infant, Color: Mariposa Light Pink Leather
I wanted to love these because they're the few leather options out there. Unfortunately, the soles are made of a flimsy material that came apart after less than 2 weeks of wear. Not sure how long they'll last...

Fits like a sock
We bought these for the Florida beaches, not knowing whether our beach would have debris, shells, or the common straw sticking up to assault your feet! We bought them for our one year old and she loved them. The sole is thin and moveable, but still protected her feet. Our beach ended up being pristine and clean, so she didn’t really need them. We let her wear them at home in the grass because she was that obsessed with them. Nice product and we’d buy them again, if needed!

Favorite Robezz shoe style
These are great, flexible sole that is a step up from the leather soles. This is a rubber gripper sole that protects the foot but gives great moment for new walkers! The fabric was better in person than I expected.

Great water shoes! Flexible and long-lasting!
We've gotten several months of fairly hard use out of these bad boys. They're awesome (just like everything else Robeez makes!). I love how stretchy they are - the stretchiness has allowed us to get quite a bit of use out of them during a time where my kiddo is growing like crazy. Great shoes - would highly recommend!

Shoes ripped after less than a week.
Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Scuba Green Spandex, Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Scuba Green Spandex
My baby has a wide toebox and very thick feet so finding shoes that fit his him can be difficult. These shoes fit him perfectly and I love how flexible the sole is too! Sadly though, the fabric started ripping by the third wear. If it only happened on one of the shoes I would assume it was a defect, but since the toes on both shoes ripped out my opinion is that it’s probably a quality issue. Such a bummer, I really wanted to like these shoes!
