Precocious, a poet, a philosopher's daughter, Maitreyi Devi was sixteenyears old in 1930 when Mircea Eliade came to Calcutta to study with herfather. More than forty years passed before Devi readBengalNights, the novel Eliade had fashioned out of their encounter, onlyto find small details and phrases, even her given name, bringing backepisodes and feelings she had spent decades trying to forget.ItDoes Not Dieis Devi's response. In part a counter to Eliade'sfantasies, the book is also a moving account of a first love fraughtwith cultural tensions, of false starts and lasting regrets.Proud of her intelligence, Maitreyi Devi's father had provided herwith a fine and, for that time, remarkably liberal education — andencouraged his brilliant foreign student, Eliade, to study with her."We were two good exhibits in his museum," Devi writes. They were also,as it turned out, deeply taken with each other. When their secretromance was discovered, Devi's father banished the young Eliade fromtheir home.Against a rich backdrop of life in an upper-caste Hindu household,Devi powerfully recreates the confusion of an over-educated childsimultaneously confronting sex and the differences, not only betweenEuropean and Indian cultures, but also between her mother's and father'sview of what was right. Amid a tangle of misunderstandings, between aEuropean man and an Indian girl, between student and teacher, husbandand wife, father and daughter, she describes a romance unfolding in theface of cultural differences but finally succumbing to culturalconstraints. On its own,It Does Not Dieis a fascinating storyof cultural conflict and thwarted love. Read together with Eliade'sBengal Nights, Devi's "romance" is a powerful study of whathappens when the oppositions between innocence and experience, enchantment and disillusion, and cultural difference and colonialarrogance collide.Maitreyi Devi (1914-1990) was a poet and lecturer, founder of theCouncil for the Promotion of Communal Harmony in 1964 and vice-presidentof the All-India Women's Coordinating Council. Her first book of verseappeared when she was sixteen, with a preface by Rabindranath Tagore. Her publications include four volumes of poetry, eight works on Tagore, and numerous books on travel, philosophy, and social reform."In two novels written forty years apart, a man and a woman tell stories of their love. . . . Taken together they provide an unusually touching story of young love unable to prevail against an opposition whose strength was tragically buttressed by the uncertainties of a cultural divide."—Isabel Colegate,New York Times Book Review"Recreates, with extraordinary vividness, the 16-year-old in love that she had been. . . . Maitreyi is entirely, disarmingly open about her emotions. . . . An impassioned plea for truth."—Anita Desai,New Republic"Something between a reunion and a duel. Together they detonate the classic bipolarities: East-West, life-art, woman-man."—Richard Eder,New York Newsday"One good confession deserves another. . . . Both books gracefully trace the authors' doomed love affair and its emotional aftermath."—Nina Mehta,Chicago TribuneNina Mehta"One good confession deserves another....both books gracefully trace the author's doomed love affair and its emotional aftermath." -- Chicago Tribune

Room Divider That Gives Instant “This Is a Separate Space Now” Energy
Size: 3 Panel 12FT W
The Siebwin 3 Panel Folding Privacy Screen is surprisingly effective at changing the feel of a room without requiring construction, commitment, or somebody yelling about load bearing walls. The 12 foot width gives a substantial amount of coverage, making it useful for creating privacy, dividing open areas, blocking visual clutter, or setting up temporary sections within larger rooms. This saved us a ton of time and money in our new studio and enabled us to create a kitchen and office in one room. The wider feet make a huge difference because flimsy room dividers that collapse every time someone exhales too aggressively are deeply annoying. This one feels more stable and grounded once positioned. The folding design makes it easy to move around or adjust depending on the space, and it folds down relatively compactly when not in use. It is basically the introvert curtain wall of dreams. The material has a clean, neutral look that blends well into different room styles without screaming “temporary office cubicle panic.” It works well for apartments, studios, shared spaces, dressing areas, or simply hiding the mountain of chaos you swear you are going to organize tomorrow. Practical, portable, and refreshingly easy to use without turning setup into a three hour emotional event.

It's 2 panels holding 1 big privacy screen. Can't use as 2 separate 4' panels, but works great.
Size: 2 Panel 8FT W
This 2 panel privacy screen works well. Assembly was very straight forward, with easily labeled tubes. My son and I had it together in about 10 minutes, which was probably 3 minutes of me telling him to quit playing around and hand me the parts. It feels very sturdy, not likely to fall over or anything. The material fits well, with the Velcro being very strong. Measurements are all very accurate, with all pieces attaching properly. We have a similar privacy screen at work that we have to try and stretch out because the top and bottom Velcro doesn't fit quite right... this model does not have any issues though. The material is thin and light weight, but solid black so that you can't see anything through or behind it. I definitely think it's a great deal for the money. What I think would have given it 5 stars though, is if you had 2 totally separate 4' panels instead of 2 panels with one big screen. It really wouldn't cost any extra to make it so that the screen was in 2 pieces and you could use it as 2 separate panels instead of having to use it as one big panel. It says 2 panel folding privacy screens, but it's really one big one that folds in the middle.

Good value for the money.
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
This partition package is a great value. I looked at many options and this one had long length to cover an entire room with the six partitions. The pieces went together easily, took about 30 minutes to assemble and has the needed Allen wrench included. It is stable with no fear of being easily knocked down. The black fabric does not completely hide everything and if there is a light on the inside, it can illuminate what is going on. It does the job but if you wanted complete privacy you would need thicker material. Overall it does what I need in that it make a TV room into a kind of guest room of sorts.

Worked amazing during christmas
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
We had a ton of people over for Christmas so I had to make an extra place for someone to sleep so I used these and surrounded an air mattress and made a small shelter basically. The dividers are light but sturdy , not heavy duty of course but not expected for this price. They do an excellent job of blocking out light and are not see thru and worked very well. Assembly was straight forward and even comes with an included wrench but I used my own to speed the process. 100% satisfied

Satisfactory
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
Everything was advertised. But the box it was shipped in was torn up pretty bad and taped up to compensate. Nevertheless, the product itself was not damaged.
