Pilot is thrilled to announce the newest collection of fountain pens from Namiki, the Aya Collection. The Aya Collection will be a regularly featured maki-e item under Namiki from the highly revered Kokkai group. The barrel artwork was designed using traditional maki-e urushi lacquer work and finished with a sprinkling of gold and silver dust using the togidashi polishing technique. Each pen features different colored urushi lacquer to create the rich hues of nature.

There are 4 barrel options available:

  • Akatsuki (Daybreak): the moment when light first appears in the morning. This Japanese word is also used for a eureka moment or realization achievement. The body of the Akatsuki is a deep, burnished red. Dried red lacquered powders are applied with different intensities, and gold powders and gold-round powders are used in the background before the body is coated in urushi lacquer and burnished and polished to a shine.
  • Hayate (Gale): a powerful gust of wind. This Japanese word is also used to express something that is pure and lively. The black urushi lacquer is finished with silver-round powders that are applied in various intensities to express the wind. The design symbolizes the appearance of majestic winds.
  • Seiryu (Limpid Stream): the crystal-clear water that gently flows through the depth of nature in a calming stream. This Japanese word also symbolizes the calm in nature that enriches the mind. Blue dry lacquered powders are applied to illustrate the flow of water. In the background, a mixture of crushed abalone shells, silver-flat powders, and silver-round powders are used to epitomize the brilliant surface of water.
  • Tokiwa (Evergreen): a Japanese word for ‘something that will never change.’ This design expresses the evergreen trees on a mountain that flourish without their leaves losing color, even in winter. Dried green lacquer powders are applied with varying intensities to symbolize the landscapes of mountains using gradient coloring. Crushed abalone shells and gold-flat-powders are used in the background to evoke a starry night.

The Aya Collection has a classical vest-type body style and is enhanced with a traditional No. 30, 18-karat gold, rhodium plated nib featuring the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji, available in Fine Medium, Medium, or Broad nib sizes. The Aya Collection offers effortless, smooth writing and is designed to delight the fountain pen collector. This classical fountain pen is refillable for continued use with a cartridge or Pilot’s CON-70 converter and arrives packaged in a beautiful Namiki wooden giftbox.

    Not for me
    Format: Kindle
🔆Bookish Thoughts This one just didn’t work for me. I really struggled to connect with either of the FMCs, and I found the pacing incredibly slow. So much of the story focused on Cadence’s complicated relationship with her mom, and it became repetitive fast. I also had a hard time getting into the romance. The “destined to be together” angle felt forced, and there was a lot more internal monologue than actual connection on the page. And both Cadence and Sydney seemed emotionally immature. Honestly, I didn't like either FMC. The premise was really cute, but I think I was expecting more of a romcom vibe, especially with the whole reverse Parent Trap setup. But it ended up feeling dry, and I found myself tuning out and just not that interested. That said, if you’re into slow burns with a lot of emotional processing, this might be more your thing. 📅 Pub Date: August 12, 2025 Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

    Cadence + Sydney
    Format: Kindle
This book was so good. No flaws, I’m obsessed. The scheming parents, the family drama, the “forbidden” romance. All of it had me grasping for more. I love a good sapphic romance and this book did NOT disappoint!! The premise of this story was so compelling and I really felt for the main characters in their personal self-discovery journey as well as their familial relationship journey. It is pretty insta-love, but the background and actual plot make it so worth it. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sapphic romance with a little magical twist to it!

It truly is the most Essential Guide
    Format: Paperback
I've worked as a professional comic book letterer for more than a decade. I've had to learn a lot through trial and error since there was so little written about this technical field of work. Finally, there is now a book for amateur letterers to have all they need to understand the craft and for professional letterers to both reference and pick up new ideas from. This book isn't just a tutorial on "how to letter comics." This also showcases creative ways to letter, interesting techniques that even experienced letterers might not know about, and - what I found to be the most helpful - the realities of a letterer's freelance life and ways the write had worked to develop a good workflow and healthy work schedule to avoid burnout or physical strain. This is an engaging book, so even if you know how to letter well or you know nothing about lettering and want to understand the kind of work that letterers do, I highly recommend this as a great read. Through my experience, I developed very different methods than what this guide described, but both are valid and I even picked up new ideas and tried out new ways of doing things while reading this book. If you want to learn how to letter, buy this book. If you want to be a better letterer, buy this book. If you don't want to letter but you want to know more about how comics are made or how one freelances in this industry, this guide is great for that too. The only thing missing is a thorough explanation on how to develop one's own comic book fonts, but like the author said, that would take up an entire book in itself. Here's hoping one day there's a companion guide to comic book font creation, because I would love to learn more about that too.

Truly Essential! The perfect guide to Comic Book Lettering!
    Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I'm completely new to Comic Book Lettering with some experience in Graphic Design but I picked this up just for my curiosity. After taking a quick flip with the book, It does not disappoint and lives up exactly to the title. It TRULY is the essential guide to Comic Book Lettering. This book comes from Nate Piekos who is the founder of BLAMBOT (one of the most professional comic book lettering companies to date). He drops every bit of wisdom and experience he's ever received / gotten through into this book and the result speaks for itself. All the tools, techniques, tips, discussions, etc are found here. He goes through what he uses / recommends for programs and tools, breaks down the structures of what goes into comic book lettering (balloons / dialogue / captions / fonts / etc), teaches you how to create a useful / time-saving templates, gives you pointers even at the most subtle aspects of lettering, covering / creating dialogue balloons, covering / creating sound effects, covering / creating logos, etc. There's so much information and visual imagery here within these pages that I can talk about this book day and night.. and again: I'm completely new to this. The book is honestly that inspiring. I recommend this, without a doubt. A master class in comic lettering! Truly thankful for Nate Piekos creating this book as well as those that helped bring it to publication.
