▪︎ABOUT
The word ikat comes from a Malay word meaning to tie. The yarn are being tied or bound first, as a form of resist, in the desired pattern and design and then dyed before being woven into textile. Hence the frayed look in the motifs typical of ikat fabric.

Hinggi are large blankets or men's waist cloth decorated with warp ikat used for special events or traditional ceremonies. In the past, only nobles had the right to use and wear such textiles. They are also used in customary exchanges.

Although Christianity is the dominant religion of the Sumbanese, many combine their faith with animise practice. They believe a person is able to acquire the spiritual powers and qualities of certain creatures when textiles displaying such motifs are worn.

*The deer motif is a symbol of the bravery and wisdom of a leader in solving community problems. It signifies a thoughtful and decisive nature.

*Manu or rooster symbolizes the rooster’s morning crow, which represents awakening, the beginning of life, and leadership that is protective and nurturing.

*Horses are versatile livestock, as a means of transportation, used in war, determine social status, and even have high economic value. In culture, the horse is an important symbol in marriage customs and a vehicle symbol for the dead in death customs. Horses symbolize masculinity, authority, majesty, courage, agility, heroism, and unity.

*Lions although do not exist in East Sumba, this motif is inspired by Dutch currency.

*Helang or eagle represents strength, guidance and protection.

Amazing first issue
Format: Kindle
I’ve been a huge fan of Spencer Ackerman since his reporting days, his incredible book “Reign of Terror” and his DC comics work on Waller vs Wildstorm. Now I’m so excited to see him writing for Marvel. I can’t wait to see all the political intrigue and social commentary he’s going to weave into this story!

Childhood fans of Michelinie Iron Man and Mantlo Hulk are creating this
Format: Kindle
So. It's adult, real-world based, and suspenseful. As a child I could afford only to buy a few comics a month with the little.money I earned. Mantlo Hulk and Michelinie/Layton Iron Man were two of the five or six comics I bought. So glad I took a chance on checking this out. Looks like I will be reading a current series this year. A lot happens in just this one issue, both mental sparring and physical bang-ups. Nice blend of food for thought and eye candy. I'm excited for the rest of the series.

Takin’ Care Of Business!
Format: Kindle
While I thoroughly enjoyed the previous run of Iron Man, a comic I stay at least in the know as best as I can, I have a feeling that this is going to be even better.

Getting There
Format: Kindle
The let’s take Stark’s company plot is getting old, but at least this time they’re showing that Tony Stark ‘s major asset is his intellect. Still leaning too much into the Stark is an alcoholic canon, which even the writers of that arc admit was a mistake that they hadn’t thought out fully; a mistake that sucked the fun out of Invincible Iron Man for decades until Robert Downey Jr portrayed the character on the big screen, and writers on the comic started to write Stark to resemble the character as originally written. I do not like the art design on Tony Stark on this run at all. The feeble Howard Hughes look doesn’t fit Tony Stark at all, but if the story gets better, I can live with it. The art will change with the next team anyway. Ackerman seems to at least like Tony Stark and he seems to understand him; two things that were definitely not the case with Cantwell. Issue one didn’t put me off, and I’m invested enough to continue and see where it goes. At this stage with many Marvel titles that’s saying a lot.
