A Simple, Resonant Children’s Harp Made by Auris in Sweden

The Art Makes Sense Pentatonic Children’s Harp (model LOP) is a beautifully made 7-string harp designed to introduce children to music through listening, play, and gentle exploration. Created for Mercurius’ Art Makes Sense line and made in Sweden by Auris, this harp offers a clear, bright tone carried by the natural resonance of maple wood.

Tuned in a pentatonic scale with a pitch range from d’ to e’’, this children’s harp allows free musical expression without discordant notes. The pentatonic tuning supports confidence, careful listening, and harmonious group play, making it especially well suited for early childhood, classroom music, and family music-making.

The solid maple body is finished with an eco-friendly shellac priming that protects the wood while enhancing warmth and clarity of sound. Seven precisely tuned steel strings are set to d’–e’–g’–a’–b’–d’’–e’’, creating a balanced tonal spectrum that feels calm, open, and inviting.

Designed as a simple, approachable instrument, this harp supports musical learning through shared games, storytelling, and attentive listening rather than formal technique.

Care, tuning, and accessories

The Art Makes Sense Children’s Harp includes a T-shaped tuning wrench with a square hole (LSN-T) for gentle, precise tuning. For ongoing care, strings may be lightly wiped and occasionally conditioned with a small amount of string oil to help reduce oxidation and maintain suppleness, especially during seasonal humidity changes.

Replacement and compatibility notes

This harp uses Auris model LOP specifications. When replacing strings, be sure to select replacement strings sized specifically for the Art Makes Sense / Auris Children’s Harp (LOP) to ensure proper pitch, tension, and sound quality. An extra LSN-T tuning wrench is nice to have as a backup for home, classroom, or shared use.

Great message that the kids listen to
Format: Hardcover
I love the message and my kids (3 and 5) find it credible and engaging, so it's a win all around. I find the illustrations (which are either done by a 5 year old or an adult as talented an artist as I am) painful but I give the text 6 out of 5 stars so when I take a star off for the over-the-top illustrations we're still at 5/5 ;) Kids who have greater access to exclusively modern media with intense graphics may not be able to relate to the material: the graphics are a big hurdle and the text is pretty dated too. I'm sure an updated version would be even more engaging for my kids but what it lacks in exciting, current graphics it makes up for in specificity and clarity for my two.

Entertaining and helpful lessons
Format: Hardcover
My family loves this book. Used to read it to my daughter as a young girl and now she’s a teen. We still talk about the lessons learned in this book! The characters and illustrations crack me up: Smash, rip and ruin taught us a lot! And the ones without hands and noses! I couldn’t believe how long ago this book was written when we got it- all lessons still applicable today.

Fun Way to Teach Manners
Format: Hardcover
This book was one I read to my daughters when they were young and I am now reading it to my grandsons. I plan to read it to my fourth grade class, as well.

... over with my 3yo and 5yo boys but they loved it!
Format: Hardcover
I wasn't sure how this would go over with my 3yo and 5yo boys but they loved it!! They always enjoy pulling it out and now I can refer back to the characters to remind them of their manners in a more positive way. The only thing is I kinda wish they had used a different animal than pig, since for some reason I don't like saying "don't be like the pigs" (since I don't really want them calling eachother or other kids pigs). But so far it has been fine :) It's also very nice they included "Be kind to animals, they have feelings too." We say that all the time around here since we have kitties. Also the part about table manners is great since we had already been teaching the kids to ask before being excused from the table.

Manners Can Be Fun
Format: Hardcover
What a cute book! I bought it for my 2 and 3 year old boys. We are attempting to teach them simple, common manners in a fun way and they love learning through books. Manners Can Be Fun presents manners in a simple, easy to understand, engaging way. The boys enjoy reading this book and it's a great way to have positive conversations about specific situations they experience daily like sharing toys, picking up after themselves, whining, meal time. It's a fun book!
