The Kawanishi H8K2 "Emily" was one of the most advanced flying boats deployed during World War II and served with distinction in the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. Developed as a long-range maritime patrol aircraft, the H8K was designed to surpass earlier models like the H6K "Mavis." The H8K2 gained notoriety during the second Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in March 1942, where two aircraft attempted a long-range bombing run from the Marshall Islands via a remote refueling stop in French Frigate Shoals.
