Founded in 1870, the Derbyshire School of Art (later part of the University of Derby) was among the leading regional centres shaping post-war craft and design pedagogy. By the 1960s and ’70s its studios had become an active contributor to Pictures for Schools, reflecting a national movement to integrate contemporary art into public life.
Retained in its original fitted carry case, stencilled ‘300’, denoting its inclusion in the school’s teaching and exhibition archive — a remarkable survival of both object and institutional history.
