Fluvastatin Description
Fluvastatin is a capsule taken daily for those with high cholesterol.
It helps lower the fat levels in your blood.
The capsules are available in 20mg (the usual starting dose) and 40mg doses.

How does Fluvastatin work?

HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, commonly known as statins, help lower the cholesterol your body makes. If there's too much cholesterol, it can accumulate in your arteries, causing them to narrow. This condition, known as atherosclerosis, makes it more difficult for blood to flow through them as it should.

This reduced blood flow raises your risk of heart attacks, strokes, transient ischaemic attacks, and peripheral arterial disease.

In addition to making lifestyle changes, taking Fluvastatin daily can help reduce the levels of low-density lipoprotein, commonly known as 'bad' cholesterol, in your blood. This can enhance your cardiovascular health by making it easier for blood to flow through your arteries.

What doses does Fluvastatin come in?

Fluvastatin comes in 20mg or 40mg capsules. The usual starting dose is 20mg per day. There is also an 80mg slow-release capsule, but we don't provide that option at the moment. The daily dosage ranges from 20mg to 80mg. Fluvastatin begins to lower cholesterol within 4 weeks of starting any dose. Since high cholesterol varies from person to person, your prescribed dose will be based on your cholesterol levels when you begin taking a statin. If your dose needs to be changed, it will typically be adjusted every 4 weeks.

A clinician is available to answer any questions you might have about your starting dose or what to expect while taking Fluvastatin, at any point during your treatment.

How long does Fluvastatin take to work?

Lowering your cholesterol usually means making some changes to your diet, getting more exercise, and possibly taking medication if your doctor thinks it's necessary. The NHS suggests eating more oily fish, such as salmon and mackerel, as well as seeds and nuts. These foods have monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which don't raise your cholesterol like the saturated fats in butter, cheese, and fried foods do.

Fluvastatin usually starts working within the first week, but you might not notice the full cholesterol-lowering effects until you've been taking the capsules for about four weeks. A blood test can show if your cholesterol levels have decreased during this period.

What should I do if I make a mistake taking Fluvastatin?

If you miss your regular dose of Fluvastatin, you can take a capsule as soon as you remember, as long as it's less than four hours before your next dose is due. This helps ensure you don't take more medication than necessary.

You should never double your dose or try to make up for missed capsules. Don't stop taking Fluvastatin without consulting a clinician first.

Are there any treatments similar to Fluvastatin?

Statins are the medication most often prescribed for individuals with high cholesterol.

In addition to following an exercise routine and making lifestyle changes like reducing alcohol intake and improving your diet, statins can help lower the fat levels in your blood and boost your long-term health.

Fluvastatin is the generic form of Lescol and functions in the same way to treat high cholesterol, also known as hypercholesterolemia. Atorvastatin is another statin that works similarly to Fluvastatin and comes in six different doses.

Will Fluvastatin cause side effects?

Fluvastatin is generally well tolerated.

Like all medicines, it can cause side effects. If you experience any, or if they're troubling you enough to consider stopping the medication, speak to a clinician. They can explore other ways to help manage your cholesterol.

Common side effects can include stomach or abdominal issues, nausea, joint pain, and trouble sleeping.

If you experience severe skin swelling or find it hard to breathe after taking a Fluvastatin capsule, head to your nearest hospital straight away. These symptoms might indicate an allergic reaction.

How effective is Fluvastatin?

Fluvastatin was the first man-made statin introduced to the market. It effectively lowers low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, commonly known as 'bad' cholesterol. By doing this, it can decrease the risk of coronary heart disease or stroke, making Fluvastatin a reliable choice for lowering cholesterol levels.

It's less likely to interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, and itraconazole, making it a potentially safe choice if you regularly take other medicines.

Do I need a prescription for Fluvastatin

A clinician will need to prescribe fluvastatin for you. A healthcare professional will ensure it's safe for you to take.

You can buy some supplements over-the-counter that claim to lower cholesterol, but their effectiveness isn't always backed by evidence, so there's no assurance they'll benefit your health.

Important Information

Fluvastatin isn't right for everyone, and there are a few things you should know before you begin taking it.

Here's all the official information on it. If there's anything you don't understand, please let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

Easy to use for a clean looking cut!
I do wish there was a cordless version but I'm so glad I bought this. It took some time to edge everything the first time because I had to cut the lines but it's been a breeze ever since. I just walk the perimeter of the yard and driveway and it does it's job with ease. The front wheel has three settings which determines how far down the blade cuts and the blade has two settings for edging or trenching. The handle is stationary but it can be lifted up or down. There's a guideline on top of the blade guard that helps identify where the blade is going to make the cut. TIP: Lean it back on the back wheels before pulling the trigger and slowly bring it down because it will jump if the blade isn't lined up and touches the concrete. It doesn't roll well in the grass but it's very smooth when rolled on the concrete. It's definitely worth having to give a clean and finished look. It's well built and isn't too heavy but definitely has some weight to it. It's only loud when the blade hits the concrete otherwise it sounds like a drone. The only complaint I have is that I have to watch the cord closely other than that it's the perfect tool to give a clean look to the yard.

Great product for the $$$$
This edger is awesome. Easy to put together. Intuitive. I put it together inside of 10 minutes. Shifted the edger "guide" down, and went to work. This corded electric model is WAYYY cheaper than the battery powered (or gas powered) models, and is absolutely up to the task. Lightweight and maneuverable. Quiet. Easy to store. The motor got a little "bound" when I tried to edge too fast, but the manual had clearly warned me on this - to back up, let the blade get back up to speed, and then edge again. The lawn edges are now straight, well-defined, and immaculate.

Great but could be Epic
If you’re looking for a solid edger for sidewalks and driveways, this is a great tool. It’s powerful, well-built, easy to assemble, and simple to use. For edging, I would definitely recommend it. However, I wouldn’t recommend it as a true trencher. I bought it for both purposes but mainly needed it for trenching. The maximum cutting depth is only about 1.5 inches, which isn’t deep enough for most garden borders or running cable. In my opinion, a real trencher should be able to reach at least 3 inches deep. The limitation comes down to the blade size and guard design. WORX could improve this model with a larger blade guard and additional wheel depth settings. If they released a version capable of 3–3.25 inch trenching depth, it would really stand out in the market. Overall, it’s an excellent edger, just not a true trencher.

Works Great!
Much quieter than I was expecting. Lawn had needed this for years, I regained 6"-10" of driveway/sidewalk back. Makes the rest of the neighborhood look bad LOL Only the cleaning up wore me out, but it should be much easier next time.
