Pearl Care

Avoid allowing perfumes, skin creams, hair sprays and other cosmetics from coming in contact with the pearls. Nacre is porous, so the chemicals can alter the quality of the pearl “skin”. Perfumes should not be applied directly on areas where the pearls will touch. Avoid wearing pearls if you are swimming or showering. Chlorine can damage pearls, and even salt water will degrade the silk that the pearls are strung on. Similarly, pearl rings should not be worn while doing the dishes, or cleaning with chemicals. Restring your pearls whenever you see dirt in the knots, or the pearls seem loose and can “jiggle” on the string. Put your pearls on last, after all cosmetics have been applied. After wearing, wipe them down with a dry or slightly dampened cloth.
