Matariki signals the migration of tohorā pods along our coastline, as they depart their Antarctic feeding grounds for tropical Pacific island retreats. While celebrating the rising of Matariki, one can gaze toward the horizon and perhaps glimpse these majestic tohorā journeying north to warmer waters. Inspired by this seasonal migration, each Tohorā is crafted from Japanese Cedar, with planks cut on a bandsaw, glued, and constructed with brass nails. Each Tohorā is charred, oiled, and finished, then mounted to float away from the wall, evoking the fluid motion of their oceanic migration.
