How to care for Isopods

Isopods, or pill bugs or sow bugs, are easy to care for and make great additions to any terrarium or vivarium. Here are some tips on how to care for your isopods:

1. Housing: Isopods need a moist and humid environment to thrive. Please provide them with a substrate that can retain moisture, such as coconut coir or sphagnum moss. You can also add leaf litter or bark for them to hide under.

2. Temperature: Isopods prefer temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C). Keep their habitat out of direct sunlight and away from drafts.

3. Humidity: Isopods require high humidity levels to survive. Mist their enclosure with water regularly to keep the substrate moist.

4. Food: Isopods are scavengers and will eat a variety of organic matter, such as leaf litter, decaying wood, and vegetables. You can feed them scraps of fruits and vegetables, fish food, or specialized isopod diets.

Each order contains a minimum of 12+ isopods at various life stages.  We also include a culture starter cup (which contains a medium and small piece of food, for housing the isopods if you are not directly adding them to your vivarium!).
