DIY Overlander Fishing Rod Carrier Kit – Gear Up, Fish Fast
For the serious truck guy who lives for fishing and overlanding, the DIY Overlander Fishing Rod Carrier Kit is your no-BS solution to protect your rods and get from truck to water in record time. At just $100 in materials and an hour to build, this kit delivers a rugged, enclosed rod carrier that mounts to your truck’s rooftop crossbars, bed rack, or wherever you need it. It’s built for men who don’t mess around – streamlined protection that keeps your gear secure and ready-to-roll, no wasted effort.

This kit is limited to some spinning rods with a large first line guide ring. The largest line guide ring including diameter of the rod in that spot must be less than the inner diameter of the 2" inner diameter of the pipe.

Forget the overpriced rod carriers – those can drain your wallet and lock you into fixed setups. Our kit cuts the fat: available in 1-rod or 3-rod configs, you print the housing and cut your 2" PVC or ABS pipe (Schedule 40 or 80, your call) to fit any rod length. It’s built for every setup – spinning rods, baitcasting, fly rods, even spincasting reels up to a beefy 4000 size, we’ve measured it. Two rear endcaps – a flat one for fly rods or an extension for rods with big butts – make it the only carrier that adapts to all your gear, no exceptions. Assembly’s a breeze: slide the tubes into the housing, lock ‘em down with PVC cement, ABS solvent cement, or E6000, and you’re done. No fiddling, no frustration.

This kit’s packed with what you need: a double-baffled reel housing with a foam-sealed cap to keep water and grime out; two aerodynamic endcaps; two tough tube clamps per rod; and two stainless thumbscrews for a rapid-deploy lock on the rear cap – no tools, no delays. The 3-rod version adds a stabilizer for rock-solid hauls. Mount it, hit the road, and when you’re there, it’s grab-and-go – your rods stay clean, untangled, and ready to fish. Less setup, more casting.

Built tougher than flimsy open holders and at a fraction of the cost of other enclosed carriers, this is for the fisherman who demands gear that works as hard as he does. Mount it on your truck, boat, indoors, or outdoors – wherever you need it, it’s ready. The DIY Overlander Fishing Rod Carrier Kit gets you from highway to hook faster – pick the 1-rod for solo runs or the 3-rod to bring the arsenal. Craft it once, fish hard, and own the water.

Failed after 2 months
Failed after about 2 months of being used as a battery isolator. When activated, only passes about 2 volts though the contacts on a 12 volt circuit now. Wasted my time and money.

Works great
I used this to turn on with key on power in my truck. Power then goes through this and turns on my key on fuse panel. That way I can run a much larger cable from the battery to the fuse panel instead of pulling power through the ignition switch, where power output is limited. So far it doesn't get hot, though I am not running anything close to 500 amps through it. More like 75 amps max and even then it's only sometimes. No problems so far.

Heavy duty and has lasted three years so far
I have had this relay installed in the engine bay of my Lexus RX 300, functioning to link the front battery to the additional battery in the trunk whenever the ignition is on. The relay has worked reliably for about three years now with no complaints besides one minor comment, be careful when threading down the nut on the Low voltage side. It is prone to stripping
