COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Interacting with People with Vision Disorders course. This program will equip you with the knowledge, awareness, and practical skills required to interact respectfully, confidently, and effectively with people who experience a wide range of vision disorders. You will explore how healthy vision works, how various disorders develop, how they affect daily life, and what strategies and supports can help promote accessibility, inclusion, and independence. This course also examines communication approaches, assistive tools, and behavioural practices that enable meaningful and respectful interactions with individuals who have low vision or blindness.

This course begins by examining what vision disorders are and how a healthy eye works, including detailed explanations of the lens and retina, and their roles in processing light and forming images. You will explore what colour blindness is, how eyesight works more broadly, and what constitutes good vision in functional and clinical terms. This section also examines the relationship between the eye and the brain, the mechanics of three-dimensional vision, and how the eyeballs are secured and protected within the skull. You will then explore a wide range of visual disorders, including blurry vision, near-sightedness vs farsightedness, astigmatism, the meaning of tracking, the importance of keeping eyes moist, crossed eyes, amblyopia, double vision, and blindness. You will also explore the history of vision disorders and remedies, including the invention of lenses and contact lenses, the development of LASIK surgery, and the various forms of eye surgery used to correct or treat vision problems.

A further part of the program focuses on supports, treatment, and daily coping strategies. You will explore how the blind are assisted in everyday life, the unique challenges of blindness in the computer age, and the processes involved in diagnosing and treating vision disorders. This section examines coping techniques, the main types of vision testing, help for blurry vision, and methods for correcting amblyopia. You will also explore how training can improve tracking skills, simple treatments that can prevent blindness, the importance of proper nutrition for eye health, and best practices for taking care of your eyes. This section also examines approaches to living with blindness, the role of guide dogs, and how lifestyle adjustments and assistive technologies promote independence and confidence.

The final learning area focuses on communicating effectively with people who have vision disorders. You will explore practical methods for ensuring safe, respectful, and comfortable interactions, including how to position yourself, offer assistance appropriately, adjust your language, and reduce environmental obstacles. This section also outlines the Do’s and Don’ts when meeting and interacting with people with vision disorders, ensuring that your communication style promotes dignity, autonomy, and clarity for individuals with low vision or blindness.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand how vision works, recognise the types and causes of vision disorders, apply communication strategies that support inclusion, identify helpful supports and treatments, and engage respectfully with people experiencing vision impairment in a way that promotes safety, confidence, and meaningful connection.

Color is off
Color: Bronze
I love the purse. The material is soft and the purse holds a lot. However the color wasn't close to what I ordered. Luckily I had a dress to match.

Beautiful and sleek black hobo bag!
Color: Black, Size: One Size, Color: Black, Size: One Size
This purse is absolutely lovely for the price! Such a cute hobo bag, yet is modern and sleek to make any outfit look polished. It is super soft and has a faux leather texture with a beautiful sheen to it. It seems like great quality and if it ever gets saggy or old, it's cheap enough to replace easily. I love the gold hardware and it also has a lovely gold metal label of the brand on the outside making it look expensive. Also the strap is thick enough that it is quite comfortable on the shoulder. The only gripe I have is that it looked a bit bigger online, it fits about as much as a tote bag would; also the pockets inside are a bit small, but overall, I LOVE it!

So spacious, great school bag
Color: Black, Size: One Size
I love this bag! I was looking for a bag that would hold my laptop without looking like a school bag, and this is perfect for the job. It fits my MacBook, granted it’s a tight fit with the case on, and it’s like a bottomless pit. I lose things in there so often, it’s so big. I’ve been using it for months now and it’s showing pretty much no signs of wear, and it’s pretty lightweight until I put my school things in it. It has two pockets on the interior, one open one on the side and one that zips up on the other side. The one that zips holds a decent bit. I held a ton of makeup in it before I decided I needed something better and that I was making it poke out too much. I don’t use the other side as much. I hold a couple of things in it, but nothing that can easily slip out. Ultimately, this bag is sleek and easy to carry around, it’s also not uncomfortable to wear when holding heavy things. I feel like skinny straps always dig into my arm, but this one is comfy. I liked it so much that I got another one in red as well. Overall, it’s a great bag and I recommend it to anyone who needs a Mary Poppins bag to hold a lot of things.

spacious, pretty and super sturdy!!
Color: Burgundy, Size: Large
soooo nice I’m obsessed! I treat my purses like black holes but I wanted something I could customize to my liking and it’s big enough I added a bunch of small bags inside to separate things and it’s still so spacious, and the wine color is my fave this season

Love it
Color: Cream, Size: Large
I love this purse, not too big and not too small. I love the soft leather and also because I can use it when I dress up and or dress down, looks good either way. And the makeup purse is a great addition to help keep all my things together. Love it
