Fruit aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry with a touch of rosemary. A toasty oak nuance provides some background complexity. The palate is rich and generous with a broad and soft mouthfeel. Subtle tannins with copious amounts of fruit sweetness.

We were incredibly lucky to be able to create this wine in 2020, with the country in a nationwide lockdown during the harvest period due to COVID-19. Fortunately after excellent weather and a classic Indian summer harvest was a real pleasure, and our 2020 wines carry some very unique memories.
The fruit for our 2020 Merlot was sourced from a diverse range of vineyards and soil types spanning the entire Hawke’s Bay region. Parcels of fruit were individually harvested, crushed at the winery and inoculated with selected yeasts for fermentation. Post fermentation, the wine was pressed to oak and underwent malo-lactic fermentation and aging for six months on light lees. Assemblage and bottling took place earlier than normal to retain the fruit purity and freshness of the 2020 vintage.
