ProCare Surround FLOAM Stirrup Ankle Support – Stabilizing Ankle Brace

Call 866-218-0902 to confirm the correct size before ordering and make sure the correct stirrup height is selected for proper ankle support.

The ProCare Surround FLOAM Stirrup Ankle Support is a rigid stirrup-style ankle brace designed to stabilize the ankle by minimizing unwanted inversion and eversion movement. It is commonly used for acute ankle sprains, chronic ankle instability, and osteoarthritis where stronger support is needed than a soft compression sleeve can provide.

Unlike elastic ankle sleeves, this brace uses two polypropylene outer shells connected by a soft adjustable foot piece and a unique FLOAM bladder filled with microspheres. This design creates more uniform compression and a customized fit while helping prevent pressure displacement over bony prominences. It fits either the right or left ankle and is commonly used in both pediatric and adult recovery.

Quick Clinical Summary

  • Product: Surround FLOAM Stirrup Ankle Support
  • Type: Rigid stirrup ankle brace
  • Fit: Universal – fits right or left ankle
  • Color: Black
  • Sizes: Pediatric, Medium, Large
  • Support System: FLOAM bladder with rigid polypropylene shells
  • Common Use: Acute sprains, chronic instability, osteoarthritis
  • HCPCS: L4350

Why Choose the ProCare Surround FLOAM?

Many ankle braces provide compression, but not true motion control. The Surround FLOAM is built for patients who need real stabilization by limiting ankle rotation while still allowing walking and daily function.

This brace is commonly used for:

  • Acute ankle sprains
  • Chronic ankle instability
  • Recurrent ankle rollover injuries
  • Osteoarthritis affecting ankle stability
  • Post-injury rehabilitation
  • Pediatric ankle stabilization when stronger support is required

The FLOAM bladder helps distribute pressure evenly while the rigid outer shells improve stability without the bulk of a full walking boot. :{index=1}

Sizing Guide – Choose by Brace Height

Sizing is based on brace height and patient size category rather than shoe size. This brace fits either the left or right ankle, so no side selection is required.

Part Number Brace Height Size
79-81193 6 Inch Pediatric
79-81195 9 Inch Medium
79-81197 10 Inch Large

Manufacturer specifications confirm universal left/right fit and size selection by height and patient category.

How to Choose the Correct Brace

  1. Select the correct patient size category — Pediatric, Medium, or Large
  2. Confirm required brace height based on ankle support needs
  3. Make sure the rigid shells align properly around the ankle joint
  4. Adjust the foot piece for secure support without excessive pressure
  5. Call before ordering if unsure whether stirrup support or a walker boot is more appropriate

When Additional Review Is Needed

  • Severe ankle fractures requiring walker boot immobilization
  • Post-operative protocols needing physician-directed bracing
  • Patients with major swelling requiring pneumatic walker support
  • Bariatric or specialty fit concerns

Fit warning: A brace that does not align correctly can reduce ankle stabilization and create pressure points. Proper shell positioning matters more than tight strapping alone. Call 866-218-0902 for fit guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ProCare Surround FLOAM used for?

It is used for acute ankle sprains, chronic ankle instability, osteoarthritis, and situations where stronger ankle stabilization is needed than a soft ankle sleeve can provide.

Is this better than a soft ankle brace?

Yes for patients needing motion control. A soft brace mainly provides compression, while the rigid stirrup shells help limit inversion and eversion injuries.

How do I choose the correct size?

Choose based on brace height and patient size category: Pediatric 6-inch, Medium 9-inch, or Large 10-inch. It fits either the left or right ankle.

Can I wear this all day?

Yes. Many patients wear it during walking, work, and recovery activity when stronger ankle support is needed without full immobilization.

Do I need a prescription for this brace?

Many patients purchase directly, but insurance reimbursement may require physician documentation depending on the provider and plan.

What if I order the wrong size?

Call before ordering whenever possible. Correct shell size affects both stability and comfort, and sizing mistakes are a major cause of avoidable returns.

What if ankle instability gets worse?

Repeated rollover injuries, persistent swelling, or worsening pain should be evaluated by your physician or orthopedic specialist.

Can this be used for pediatric patients?

Yes. The Pediatric 6-inch version is specifically designed for smaller patients needing stronger ankle stabilization.

Bought these protectors for shipping rare cards I sell online. They do NOT snap together! for my purposes I use a little tape to hold it closed so the buyer gets an undamaged card in the mail. works perfectly for my use.

Great slab!
Item Package Quantity: 2, Item Package Quantity: 2
These slabs are excellent but yes they don't clip together The top and bottom piece are not made to snap together. My solution was to slide the slab into a tightly fitting slab sleeve and boom, a perfect alternative to a graded card. We even made a custom label for a gift for grandpa.

Garbage, these don't close properly
Item Package Quantity: 2
These are defective. They don't close seal properly whatsoever. If you intend the handle the card, move it around at all, these will damage your nice cards. Do not buy if quality and protection is what you need.

Great Value - Use the right adhesive and they are crystal clear
Item Package Quantity: 48
These are generally pretty good. Some have rough edges from the mold, but there's not too many in the pack that are like that. Each come shipped in a bag. DO NOT USE GORILLA GLUE IMPACT TOUGH SUPER GLUE to seal these. They cloud the plastic. I used JB WELD LIGHT ACTIVATED and it worked perfectly. Model glue probably works too, but I haven't tried that yet. Less is more.

Great Cases for Cards
Item Package Quantity: 12, Item Package Quantity: 12
These were great for what I wanted them for. I like the look of having a card slabbed with a label but sending to the big grading companies is expensive. I was able to Slab wrestling cards, and sports cards. I even did one of my garbage pail kids. These are not designed to just snap together and do require some plastic adhesive or glue. Not a bad price for what I needed them for.
