Artist Statement:

PETER AKA SPIDER-MAN

I have always loved the design and colors of SNEAKERS. The bright colors and intricate designs are the same reasons why I love COMIC BOOKS/SUPER HEROES. Also, there is always the story behind a certain Super Hero. Their SECRET ORIGIN. The amazing story of how a character got his/her powers. Or the incredible circumstances that caused a character to become a Super Hero. Most sneakers also have their own “Secret Origin”. The process that it took a designer to get to the final look of a sneaker. What inspired the look of a shoe. What influenced the use of certain materials or colors. So many things in common that I always felt needed to be explored.

These vinyl figures are what I call S.H.S. aka Super Heroes in Sneakers- two things that meant a lot to me growing up and still do to this day. Two completely different cultures mashed together to create a new visual of things most people wouldn’t normally see together. I always wondered what kicks my favorite Super Hero would wear. That’s why I would create these illustrations and now DESIGNER TOYS!

When a quiet, mild mannered, science student from Queens got bit by a radioactive spider, his life changed forever. PETER PARKER went from the High School Nerd to the Friendly Neighborhood SPIDER-MAN. Much like most people, SPIDER-MAN resonated with me at a young age. Whether it was him being a kid living his normal life, while having AMAZING powers and a quick wit. Or his EYE POPPING DESIGN with his RED, BLUE and BLACK color scheme. SPIDEY was all around SPECTACULAR! After designing MILES, and then GWEN, it was only natural that I design a PETER Art Figure. The SPIDER who inspired the entire SPIDER-VERSE! I wanted PETER to be in a classic SPIDEY POSE. A pose that only the most AGILE of HEROES could hit. And his hands had to be in the “Ready to THWIP” pose. I wanted PETER to rep his individualistic style with a pair sneakers that really stood out and could be styling’ in the AIR as he is swinging through the city. KICKS that could be FOAM cushioned and FORM- FITTING for all his acrobatic moves. SNEAKERS that could match his SUIT, and his FRESH WEB-WINGS!
