When a dissertation crosses my desk, I usually want to grab it by its metaphorical lapels and give it a good shake. "You know something!" I would say if it could hear me. "Now tell it to us in language we can understand!"
Since its publication in 2005, From Dissertation to Book has helped thousands of young academic authors get their books beyond the thesis committee and into the hands of interested publishers and general readers. Now revised and updated to reflect the evolution of scholarly publishing, this edition includes a new chapter arguing that the future of academic writing is in the hands of young scholars who must create work that meets the broader expectations of readers rather than the narrow requirements of academic committees.
At the heart of From Dissertation to Book is the idea that revising the dissertation is fundamentally a process of shifting its focus from the concerns of a narrow audience--a committee or advisors--to those of a broader scholarly audience that wants writing to be both informative and engaging. William Germano offers clear guidance on how to do this, with advice on such topics as rethinking the table of contents, taming runaway footnotes, shaping chapter length, and confronting the limitations of jargon, alongside helpful timetables for light or heavy revision.

Germano draws on his years of experience in both academia and publishing to show writers how to turn a dissertation into a book that an audience will actually enjoy, whether reading on a page or a screen. Germano also acknowledges that not all dissertations can or even should become books and explores other, often overlooked, options, such as turning them into journal articles or chapters in an edited work.
With clear directions, engaging examples, and an eye for the idiosyncrasies of academic writing, From Dissertation to Book reveals to recent PhDs the secrets of careful and thoughtful revision--a skill that will be truly invaluable as they add "author" to their curriculum vitae.

Great for multiple adapters
Color: Black, Size: 8 Outlet, Style: Outlets Only
One of the common flaws of single width strips is the inability to accommodate more than 1 adapter unless you want to waste the sockets as the adapter obstructs/covers the adjacent sockets. This one has 2 rows with sockets at 90 degrees. As such, adapters face outward and do not obstruct adjacent sockets. Well made and sturdy, typical of APC quality. Hopefully the surge protection won't be tested but gives you peace of mind to know that all plugged in devices are protected. I have it mounted under my office desk using the mounting holes at the back. Great value for the money.

A household staple
Style: Data/Line Protection - 12 ft
I use this power strip for both my computer and entertainment setup, and it has been very reliable. The seven outlets give me enough room for everything without having to use multiple strips. The cord is long enough to reach the wall easily while keeping things neat. It sits flat on the floor and does not tip over when everything is plugged in. The layout of the outlets makes it easy to plug in larger adapters without blocking others. It has already gotten a lot of use and should give me plenty more for years to come.

Perfect!
Style: Data/Line Protection - 6 ft
I somehow didn't notice it had phone jacks on the end of it before I ordered, but this was the only/cheapest option I could find that had a flat plug, and a 6 foot cord, and was a surge protector, AND had indicator lights for protection at least (this additonally has a light for ungrounded). I feel like, what's the point in having a surge protector if it can't tell you whether it's protecting you or not? I needed the flat plug to fit behind a door that remains open fully and has my outlet behind it as a result. Perfect. I don't and probably will never have a use for the phone jacks. It came with a sticker over them which I will just leave for now. But this fit the bill of all other criteria. I guess the 5th criteria was a "known brand" - I didn't want some cheap "travel surge protector" by an unknown company. Belkin, Tripp Lite, APC...don't risk your expensive electronics. I also got a few of the Amazon Basics ones to put around the house and replace the power taps we were using. But they don't have flat plugs.

Quality Product
Style: Data/Line Protection - 12 ft
*** Seller: I bought the Belkin 7-Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector with 12 feet Cord from Amazon.com LLC. *** Shipping and handling: Amazon.com LLC did a wonderful job in packaging this product. It arrived in excellent condition. *** Usage time: I received this product on February 4, 2015, and from the date of this review, I have been using it for 31 days. I'll update my review periodically. *** Performance review: - Negatives. None. - Neutral. (1) The angled plug is convenient for tight spaces. Some people have complained about its right-oriented design, but that doesn't vex me. I simply place the surge protector somewhere to the right of my workstation. (2) I haven't experienced a surge yet (and I hope I never will), so I can't comment on the device's ability to protect my devices. - Positives. (1) Still working after 31 days of continued use (with all seven outlets occupied [laptop, scanner, printer, and so on]). (2) Based on the device's appearance, it looks both sturdy and professional. A reset switch is located on the side. Indicators on top show whether your devices are either protected (green) or not grounded. *** Summary: I thoroughly enjoy this device and would recommend it to anyone seeking a quality product. If this device were to break down, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again from Amazon.com LLC.

Works and Mounts Nicely
Style: Data/Line Protection - 12 ft
I wanted to get one of these so I could use it to plug in all of my electronics that I use in my office desk (pretty typical). The desk is in the middle of the room though, so it made it all that much more important that I could "hide" this inside of the desk. It was a little difficult to figure out where to put the screws so they correctly lined up with the holes in the back of the device, but after a couple of tries, got it to work. It does occassionally fall down. It would be really nice if there were additional holes in the back of the item so you could put 4+ screws into the surge protector so it has the ability to hold up all of the heavy plug in's that are on the market today. The cord being 12' long was GREAT! This was really the reason that I purchased this model. It eliminates the need to plug this item into an extension cord, which was key. It's been a good item. Nothing special, but how special can surge protectors get? The 12' cord is great, the item is sturdy and I have been very happy.
