Roasted 2/25

Key Lime, Red Currant, Cameo Apple

Over the past year, Paola Trujillo has become a staple on the Mirra menu, and one of our all-time favorite Colombian producers. We have previously featured her aji, sidra, wush wush, and pink bourbon, so we are thrilled, now, to share her washed SL28 with you. We have been on the lookout, for some time now, for a Colombian SL28 worthy of our menu, and given Paola’s proven history of outstanding quality, it should have come as no surprise to us that this lot would hit the mark for us. In the cup, we find all the best characteristics of a classic SL28 profile—an abundance of freshly-squeezed lime acidity, juicy, bright red currant and berries, and crisp, sweet cameo apple.

Paola’s family farm, Patio Bonito, located at 1.700 masl in the coastal region of Cauca, Colombia, has been in the Trujillo family for two generations. It was founded by her father, Carlos Trujillo, who has begun ceding increasing authority over the farm over to his daughters, Paola and Patricia, who have been learning the art of coffee cultivation garnered from Carlos’ 40+ years of experience as a coffee farmer and agroforestry engineer. Patio Bonito is comprised of 9 hectares, planted with over 45.000 coffee trees of varying varietals, such as castillo, typica, colombia, pink bourbon, sidra, wush wush, SL28, geisha, and aji, which makes up this lot.

SL28 is perhaps the most lauded common African cultivar for its quality and strong drought resistance. It is a cultivar of the bourbon genetic group which was first released by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in 1935 in Kabete, Kenya. It quickly became dominant throughout Kenya and has now spread beyond East Africa to Central and South America, due to its high potential for quality.

All coffee is sold whole-bean to reduce oxidation, and increase the longevity of volatile organic compounds.

Little Golden Books Are Wonderful
Format: Hardcover
These books have been, and continue to be, the best books ever written for children. They teach life lessons in such a genteel way and the artwork is wonderful. I associate these books with my wonderful childhood. My mom read them to me all the time. I was glad I could purchase them as gifts to give to my friend so she could read them to her grandchild!

For Little Animal Lovers
Format: Hardcover
Adorable. Sweet little illustrations about each creature. The Kiddo's favorite page is the giraffe, because even a baby giraffe is so tall he has to kind of smoosh down to fit on the page of a book! There is also a nice little story/nugget of information on each animal, so as they get older they still like to read the book because it is about behavior and they like to add more details! A classic Little Golden Book, always great value.

Brings back good memories
Format: Hardcover
this was my favorite book when I was young (born in 1957). It was read over and over to me by my great aunt whom I used to spend much time with and I credit it with forming my deep and abiding love for all animals. I purchased 3 copies to give to my grandchildren (ages 11 weeks to 16 months)for Christmas. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did.
