  • Saint Boniface, born in the kingdom of Wessex in Anglo-Saxon England, was a leading figure in the Anglo-Saxon mission to the Germanic parts of the Frankish Empire during the 8th century. He organized Christianity in many parts of Germania and was made archbishop of Mainz by Pope Gregory III. He was martyred in Frisia in 754, along with 52 others, and his remains were returned to Fulda, where they rest in a sarcophagus which became a site of pilgrimage. Boniface's life and death as well as his work became widely known. He became the Patron Saint of Germania, known as the "Apostle of the Germans".
  • From his missionary travels, Boniface knew that in winter the inhabitants of the village of Geismar gathered around a huge old oak tree (known as the “Thunder Oak”) dedicated to the god Thor. This annual event of worship centered on sacrificing a human, usually a small child, to the pagan god. Boniface desired to convert the village by destroying the Thunder Oak, which the pagans had previously boasted the God of Boniface could not destroy, so he gathered a few companions and journeyed to Geismar.
  • His fellow missionaries were scared and fearful that the Germans might kill them, so they balked when they reached the outskirts of the village on Christmas Eve. Boniface steadied the nerves of his friends and as they approached the pagan gathering he said, “Here is the Thunder Oak; and here the cross of Christ shall break the hammer of the false god Thor.” Boniface and his friends arrived at the time of the sacrifice, which was interrupted by their presence. In a show of great trust in God and born from a desire to enkindle the fire of Christ in the German pagans, Boniface grabbed an axe and chopped down the Thunder Oak of mighty Thor.
  • The Germans were astounded. The holy bishop preached the Gospel to the people and used a little fir tree that was behind the now felled oak tree as a tool of evangelization. Pointing to it Boniface said:
  • “This little tree, a young child of the forest, shall be your holy tree tonight. It is the wood of peace… It is the sign of an endless life, for its leaves are ever green. See how it points upward to heaven. Let this be called the Tree of the Christ-Child; gather about it, not in the wild wood, but in your own homes; there it will shelter no deeds of blood, but loving gifts and rites of kindness.”
  • Awed by the destruction of the oak tree and Boniface’s preaching, the Germans were baptized.
  • Boniface continued his missionary efforts into old age when in 754, he left for a trip to Frisia with fifty monks. Their work was successful and many pagans agreed to receive baptism. When the appointed time came to celebrate the sacrament, a large armed crowd of pagans approached the missionaries. Knowing his time to die was at hand, Boniface discouraged his followers from fighting and said, “Cease my sons, from fighting, give up warfare for the witness of Scripture recommends that we do not give an eye for an eye but rather good for evil. Here is the long awaited day; the time of our end has now come; courage in the Lord!" The ferocious pagan attack left Boniface and his fellow companions dead and celebrated as martyrs for the Faith.
  • In the centuries that followed, the Catholic tradition of using an evergreen tree to celebrate the birth of Jesus spread throughout Germany, and German immigrants in the eighteenth century brought the custom to the New World. Although there are many stories, legends, and myths surrounding the founding of the Christmas Tree, including the claim that the custom originated with Martin Luther, there is only one story rooted in a real person and a real event: Boniface, converter of the Germans, who destroyed Thor's mighty oak.

Great quality, hummingbird nectar all in one bottle!
Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: 64 oz Ready To Use, Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: 64 oz Ready To Use
I was so excited to get this hummingbird nectar because you don’t have to add anything to it at all. When I was reading the ingredients, it does have a preservative so that’s good as well. It won’t go bad on the birds. I love it. I saw my birds coming and going to this feeder all day. I highly recommend it.

Birds seem to love it!
Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 2), Style: 16 Fl Oz Concentrate (Pack of 2)
I grew up using homemade hummingbird food dyed a bright red color with koolaid or food dye. But for the first time in my adult life, I'm somewhere that has a lot of hummingbirds and I wanted to provide them with the best juice possible. I decided on this juice because I like that it has hummingbird friendly electrolytes and is in a concentrate so I can make my own preferred dilution. I am in a very hot desert climate so I've been doing a 1-3/3.5 ratio to help keep them extra hydrated and the hummingbirds and bees are loving it. We have four feeders. Two closer to the ground and two on our second floor balcony. The birds and bees have been visiting all four regularly and our cats are loving the show. I swear my youngest cat gets most excited about the bees. I know the bees are seen as problematic for most but the birds don't seem to mind them sharing a few feeding holes and we don't mind feeding the bees too. The bees are probably more important for our ecosystem than the birds anyway. I took away one star because the seals on the bottles aren't very strong and both had leaked during transit, one was very messy and crusted with dried sugar. Since these are technically supposed to be refrigerated after opening I probably should have returned them but upon reading the ingredients, I don't see a reason that they would have gone bad without showing obvious signs of spoilage. It's basically gatorade for birds. I even took a sip to see if I died. I was fine so figured it's fine for the birds too. If the next order is also leaking I'll consider going elsewhere but for now we have happy birds, bees and cats.

They keep coming back for more ..........
Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: 64 oz Ready To Use
I've only been using this food for two weeks, but the hummingbirds love it so far. From what I've read, they are attracted to the color of the feeder more so than the smell of the nectar / food itself. With the amount of work that hummingbirds have to go through just to find enough food to survive, I figure it is worth the extra cost of this food compared to making plain sugar water that does not have the added minerals and electrolytes that this feed has to mimic real nectar.

Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: 64 oz Ready To Use
I bought this same product last year for my hummingbirds and it brings them into the feeder. So, as of today I have already seen a steady increase in the hummingbirds. 💕

Quickly accepted by our local hummingbirds.
Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: 64 oz Ready To Use
I used this in a red hanging hummingbird feeder on a second-floor shaded balcony. The feeder had only been up a short time, and the nectar was accepted quickly. I observed hummingbirds visiting, perching, and drinking from the active lower tiers, so the product clearly did not discourage feeding. What I like most is the convenience. It is ready to pour, clear, and does not require mixing sugar and water. I also appreciate that it is not dyed red. The feeder itself provides enough red visual attraction, so colored liquid is not necessary. For a small balcony feeder, I only needed to fill the reservoirs about halfway, which helped keep the nectar fresh and reduced waste. A few practical notes: I still treat this like any hummingbird nectar and replace it regularly rather than letting it sit for many days. Even in shaded, mild weather, I would rather keep the feeder clean and fresh. The bottle should also be stored properly after opening. Overall, this is a good option if you want a simple ready-to-use nectar without mixing your own. Homemade sugar water is cheaper, but this is convenient, clean-looking, and in my case the hummingbirds used it. I would recommend it for someone who wants an easy pour-and-fill option, especially for a smaller feeder or balcony setup.
