Installation Guide
- Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental starting.
- Place the outboard gear shift in neutral and remove the lower unit (gearcase) mounting bolts.
- Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the upper driveshaft housing.
- Remove the water pump housing bolts and slide the housing up off the driveshaft.
- Remove the old impeller, gaskets, and wear plate, noting their orientation. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new lower gasket and stainless steel wear plate onto the gearcase.
- Install the new impeller key into the driveshaft and slide the new impeller on, turning the shaft clockwise to properly seat the vanes.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new housing cup and install it over the impeller.
- Install the new upper gasket and reinstall the water pump housing, tightening the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.
- Secure the lower unit with its mounting bolts and reconnect the battery cable.
- Test the engine using a water supply (flushing attachment or in water) to confirm a strong and steady stream from the engine's tell-tale.
