"The Game Of Squash" is a book written by Eustace Hamilton Miles and first published around 1900, offering a comprehensive guide to the sport with instructions on history, rules, techniques, and strategies. Miles, a prominent figure in racquets sports who coached in the US and became a champion, detailed the game using illustrations and diagrams to explain racket handling, serving, and shot-making.

Ex-libris: Clarence Cecil Pell (1885-1964)

Signed on inside front cover panel

Clarence C. Pell was a retired stockbroker and a noted racquets player.

Mr. Pell was a descendant of the Pells who were hereditary lords of the manor of Pelham under a grant from King Charles II and who sold part of the land in 1688 to Huguenot settlers, who then founded New Rochelle. In the deed the city was obliged to provide the family annually with "one fatt calfe."

He was a younger brother of Herbert Claiborne Pell, a former United States Representative from New York and a diplomat, and an uncle of Senator Claiborne Pell, Democrat of Rhode Island. John H. G. Pell, financier and historian and former chancellor of Long Island University, is a cousin.

He was educated at the Pomfret School and at Harvard, where he was graduated in 1908 and was captain of the hockey team. He became a stockbroker in New York, retiring in 1929.

In World War I Mr. Pell served overseas as an aviator, holding a captaincy in what was then the aviation section of the Army Signal Corps.

U.S. Champion 21 Times

The war interrupted his record as a perennial racquets champion of the United States. He held the singles title 12 times between 1915 and 1933. Paired with Stanley G. Mortimer, he won the doubles championship nine times. In 1925 he won the British singles championship, the only foreigner to have achieved this.

The scene of many of his triumphs was the Racquet and Tennis Club in New York, of which he was president from 1933 to 1942. He was also for many years a governor of the Piping Rock Club, Locust Valley, L. I.

Racquets is usually played on a roofed court 80 feet long and 40 feet wide with walls 40 feet high. The players stand facing one of the narrow walls known as the front wall and hit the ball with a gut‐strung bat or racket at each other by rebound off the front, as in squash or handball.

The Game of Squash, by Eustace Miles, M.A. New York, J.F Taylor & Co. 1st US edition. small 8vo (16x11 cm). XX, 131pp, plus advertisements (sports equipment). With the very unusual, suede leather cover, with title in relief. Photographic plates and text illustrations throughout. Eustace Hamilton Miles (1868-1948) was one of the greatest amateur racket sports champions of the early 20th century. During his peak, he held championship titles in all the various court games, most notably Racquets (1902) and Real Tennis (9 times between 1899 and 1910; winner of the silver medal at the Olympic Games of 1908). Although for squash at that early time there were no official championships in the UK, he would certainly have ranked amongst the top players of the era at that game too. But in squash, he will probably be best remembered as the author of the first ever book on the game. Published in 1901, it predates the next book in the squash bibliography by no less than 25 years. At the time this book came out, squash was still very much regarded as a mere pastime for schoolboys, for whom it was considered useful practice for the more serious sport of Racquets. There were no standard squash rules laid down yet, nor was there a standard size for courts. Very often it was still being played outdoors, under haphazard circumstances. Miles too, although providing plans for an enclosed indoor court in the book, suggests that even a simple outdoor court with only one wall can provide a good game; and that rain pipes, windows etc. could be used to add extra scoring opportunities. So, the book provides a unique insight into the game when squash was still in its formative stages. This is the rare US 1st edition, which was published in the same year as the UK edition. The author was living in the US at the time the book was published, so it’s unclear which book came out first. The covers of both books are very different: this US book has the remarkable suede leather cover, with the title in relief. In accordance with its early publication date, and the fact that relatively few people played the game at the time, the book is RARE indeed. It is seldom that a copy comes onto the market, and we know of several collectors who have been trying to acquire a copy, some for more than 20 years. It is THE most sought-after book in the squash bibliography. A great chance to acquire this rare piece of squash history!

Reliable, sturdy, and well-designed
Color: Black
I bought the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station for my husband at Christmas, and it’s been on his nightstand and used consistently ever since. We’ve tried similar multi-device chargers before, but they always felt cheaply made and didn’t hold up over time. This one is completely different. Right out of the box, it felt solid and well-built — definitely a noticeable step up in quality. It charges his phone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously without any issues, and the MagSafe connection is strong and secure. It keeps everything organized in one sleek spot, which makes the nightstand look cleaner and less cluttered. If you’re tired of flimsy charging stations that don’t last, this one is absolutely worth it. Reliable, sturdy, and well-designed.

Works Pretty Great
Color: Black, Color: Black
Used it for a month so far. It looks cool and has a very strong magnetic connection on both the phone and watch pads. The stand has a good amount of weight to the base of it while still being small and compact. I was able to charge both my phone and watch simultaneously and it seems to work pretty well, though I’ll update this review if it ever fails. I have an ESR case and it holds my iPhone 14 Pro very firmly and I can rotate or angle it any way I’d like on the stand. HTX Studio ran battery health charging tests across multiple iPhone using wired vs. wireless charging and proved that wireless charging barely but still noticeably improves battery health (doesn’t degrade it as much) over time since it charges slightly slower and can manage its heat slightly better because of that. Do keep in mind that wireless charging is about 50% as efficient as wired charging so you’ll spend around $8-12 per year charging your phone instead of $4-6 (which is negligible for the convenience it offers in my opinion). Price is a little steep but this is the best charging stand I could find on Amazon after lots of research. It does not have active cooling but it’s made of aluminum and similar materials so it should handle heat better than say a silicone one would. Overall, it looks pretty nice and does what’s asked of it. See attached photos. Screenshots are from my phone being charged on the stand. I tested it with my Apple watch (series 9) and phone at the same time, too, but that’s not in the pictures. Latest update: I had issues with Apple Watch charging during the WatchOS 26 Release Candidate update but the full release resolved those issues.

These things work great for my apple products.
Color: White
Used for apple watch, iphone 15 Pro Max and air pods pro. Have one that was purchased elsewhere and given to me as a gift. Wanted another but was waiting for a price drop that was more in line with my feelings of what is a fair price. Amazon offered them at a decent price so sprung for a second. WHY? They are very stable. Doesn’t feel like it will tip even with my phone on there horizontally. Footprint is very small. I can put the phone both vertical and horizontal and it charges great with both an Ultra 3 watch and an apple watch 11. Can also charge the air pods at the same time. The best part that justifies the price is it comes WITH the watch charger right there on it. You don’t have to lace your own watch cord through some tiny space like some others I have owned. And the apple watch chargers are expensive. Would easily fit in a bag to carry with me. Although it doesn’t fold down for travel. Comes with the USB wall wort and the USB-C cable. C cable plugs into the single outlet on the back of the charging unit. No issues with overheating of devices. I bought the white one. The plastic charging pads for the phone and air pods are a light gray and they look good together and with the white. I just like white, but they have other colors. It also charges my Anker Soundcore rechargable earbuds. It has a white light that comes on when I put my items on the charger. I will absolutely be getting another. Have been buying Anker products for a while. Nearly all have been fabulous. BUT they did have a recall on a 5000 or 10000 mAH portable charging pack. Cannot remember which it was. But amazon notified me about it, even before the recall hit the news. Have had absolutely no problems with either one I have.

Awesome charger!
Color: White
I have a few Anker chargers and this is definitely a favorite! I usually charge my phone and watch simultaneously so I got this one for traveling. I love the way my phone stands on the charger. It’s great to check the time when waking up. It charges my watch very quickly so I can put it back on before falling asleep. The fast charge and compact form is great for traveling. It’s also easy to plug in and charge my phone, watch, and earbuds at home. Anker chargers are my favorite. I’ve never had an issue with them and they work forever.

Another excellent Anker product
Color: Black
I always start my peripheral search with Anker. As all my Anker equipment are, it’s solid, compact and works as promised. If I get really picky, when I have my Air Pods charging, the band of my Apple Watch takes some extra effort to tuck in above it (a little more height would be appreciated, although it would work against its compactness). That’s a really minor gripe. I love that the magnet is strong and that the orientation can be changed from landscape to portrait without removing it from the mount. It will fit into a suitcase easily and the AC adapter is small. I couldn’t be happier with it!
