The Influence of the Spanish Renaissance on El Greco
El Greco, born Domenikos Theotokopoulos, emerged during the Spanish Renaissance, a period rich in artistic innovation. His work reflects the cultural and religious fervor of 16th-century Spain. The Spanish Renaissance was marked by a blend of Gothic and Mannerist styles, which shaped El Greco's unique approach to painting. His time in Toledo, a city steeped in history, further influenced his artistic vision.Religious Themes in 16th Century Art
During the 16th century, religious themes dominated the art world. Artists like El Greco often depicted biblical stories to convey spiritual messages. "Christ Healing the Blind Man" exemplifies this trend, showcasing the miracle of healing as a testament to faith and divine compassion. This painting resonates with the Counter-Reformation's emphasis on personal piety and the miraculous.El Greco's Unique Style: Mannerism and Expressionism
El Greco's style is a fascinating blend of Mannerism and early Expressionism. His elongated figures and dramatic poses create a sense of movement and emotional intensity. The use of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes sets his work apart from his contemporaries. This distinctive style invites viewers to engage deeply with the spiritual narratives he portrays.Detailed Analysis of Christ Healing the Blind Man
Composition and Color Palette: A Study in Contrast
In "Christ Healing the Blind Man," El Greco employs a striking composition that draws the eye to the central figures. The contrast between the dark, shadowy crowd and the illuminated figures of Christ and the blind man enhances the painting's emotional impact. The rich color palette, featuring deep blues and radiant whites, symbolizes purity and divine intervention.Symbolism in the Figures: Christ, the Blind Man, and the Crowd
The figures in this painting are laden with symbolism. Christ, depicted with a serene expression, embodies compassion and divine authority. The blind man, reaching out for healing, represents faith and the human condition. The surrounding crowd, with varied expressions, illustrates the spectrum of belief and skepticism present during miracles.Brushwork Techniques: Capturing Emotion and Movement
El Greco's brushwork is both expressive and meticulous. He uses swift, dynamic strokes to convey movement, particularly in the flowing garments of the figures. This technique captures the emotional turmoil of the scene, allowing viewers to feel the urgency of the miracle. The texture created by the oil on canvas adds depth and richness to the overall composition.Theological Significance of the Miracle Depicted
Understanding the Miracle: Biblical References and Interpretations
The miracle of healing the blind man is rooted in the Gospels, specifically in the accounts found in Mark 8:22-26. This biblical reference highlights the transformative power of faith. El Greco's interpretation invites viewers to reflect on the nature of belief and the importance of spiritual sight.Faith and Healing: The Message of Compassion in the Painting
At its core, "Christ Healing the Blind Man" conveys a powerful message of compassion and hope. The act of healing serves as a reminder of the importance of faith in overcoming life's challenges. Use of Light and Shadow: Chiaroscuro in El Greco's Art
El Greco masterfully employs chiaroscuro, the technique of using light and shadow to create depth. This technique not only enhances the three-dimensionality of the painting but also emphasizes the spiritual illumination of Christ.Innovative Composition: The Arrangement of Figures and Space
The arrangement of figures in this painting is innovative and dynamic. El Greco places Christ and the blind man at the forefront, creating a focal point that draws the viewer's attention. The surrounding crowd, depicted in varying poses, adds a sense of movement and drama, making the scene feel alive and engaging.Texture and Detail: The Impact of Oil on Canvas
El Greco's use of oil on canvas allows for rich textures and intricate details. The layering of paint creates a luminous quality that enhances the emotional depth of the painting. This technique enables him to capture the subtleties of human expression and the flowing fabrics of the figures, adding to the overall impact of the artwork.Comparative Analysis: El Greco vs. Other Renaissance Artists
Contrasting Styles: El Greco and Caravaggio
El Greco's style contrasts sharply with that of Caravaggio, another master of the period. While Caravaggio focused on realism and dramatic lighting, El Greco embraced a more spiritual and expressive approach. This difference highlights the diversity of artistic expression during the Renaissance.Influence of Italian Masters on El Greco's Technique
El Greco was influenced by Italian masters such as Titian and Michelangelo. Their use of color and form can be seen in his work, yet he transformed these influences into a unique style that reflects his personal vision. Wow!!!
Size: 80 ea
XyliMelts were recommended by my new dental hygienist who said she was told about them at a dental conference by a well known hygienist "guru".
I ordered them at around four in the morning because I was up as usual because if my chronic pain syndrome and the dry mouth caused by my pain pills.
I got them quickly via Amazon and have not been up again this time of night due to the dry mouth. Now I'm up due to the pain but can fall asleep quickly because of the XyliMelts, they work great!
I only use one at a time and it lasts around four hours and I put in another one and go right back to sleep. It's so easy to push the little tab out of the cellophane and just hold it on my gum for ten seconds and voila! No more dry mouth. I used to wake up with my mouth so dry there was no saliva at all in my mouth and parched was an understatement, my mouth felt like sandpaper!
Now it's always nice and moist and the taste is extremely pleasant (I didn't get the mint). I had to have two teeth extracted four days before Christmas and my dentist said it was due to the dry mouth and that he sees patterns like this in patients with dry mouth and I'd probably lose more teeth unless I came in for cleanings and check ups three times a year instead of two and we kept a really close eye on my teeth.
I'd been using Biotene gel but it wasn't keeping my mouth moist long enough. I'm extremely happy with XyliMelt! I'm also 100% sure I won't be losing any more teeth due to my night time dry mouth because it's a thing of the past!
Thanks to amazon prime shipping I got my XyliMelts very quickly, and my nighttime dry mouth is a thing of the past!
I know they don't claim to stop cavities but without the dry mouth and my new commitment to see my dentist three times a year and to always always brush my teeth before I fall asleep (no more Rolos in bed after I've done my final teeth brushing), I'm confident my dentist won't see a tooth loss pattern in my mouth.

Dry Mouth Tabs, Sugar Free
Size: 80 ea
Always have these in my purse and beside my bed. Mouth is dry and these help to keep it moisturized. Lasts several hours, nice taste, sugar free. I feel saw to use at night, sticks to my mouth wherever I place it. I have never had it slip out of my mouth at night and choke me. My dentist recommended them.

Xylimelts work...very very well..finally moisture to my mouth for longer than anything i have tried
Size: 80 ea
i have xerostomia...this is a dry mouth due to radiation treatments...I have minimum saliva. I must sip water or a liquid with every bite of food.
When i talk my mouth quickly dries and makes it difficult to speak......I have tried many....many different sprays, gels, etc. etc. Along came Xylimelts and it has been the best thing for me to date. It does add some moisture to my mouth and the great part is that it lasts for a very long time. I use the mint free only because my dry mouth is more sensitive to certain tastes. I once used Biotene and now i stay away from all of their products.....Biotene was around a while and marketed their product and had become very popular....Glaxo Smith Kline ( the big drug company that only cares about their profits over our health) purchased Biotene and had altered the product for the worse and they have done this with other products. They actually removed beneficial ingredients and replaced them with poor ingredients....Here is just one example: Xylitol was in one of their products ( Biotene toothpaste) when they purchased the company from Biotene. Xylitol has beneficial qualities and they replaced it with the Cancer in Laboratory rats ingredient called Sacharin... They have removed other ingredients as well...I stay away from any product from Glaxo Smith Kline. I have my own personal boycott and that means I no longer buy their Tums as well... Yes...They played their games with Tums also.....so i just do not buy their products.
Xylimelts does work for me...very very well. It adheres to the gums above my teeth and it just stays there adds moisture to my mouth. Obviously i recommend this product

I'd rate them 5 stars if only I'd had them to use over the last two decades!
Size: 80 ea
A couple of years ago my dentist and hygienist told me about Xylimelts, which I promptly ordered and appreciated as soon as I used them. After suffering teeth problems due to meds for years, it's too late for me to save my uppers -- dry mouth had decayed my teeth, even with plenty of hydration, good dental hygiene and wonderful dental care (when I didn't put it off a few times, sigh...), and I’m about to get dentures :( .
I started out putting two in my mouth at night, but that seemed to be a bit much -- they'd cause me to drool and stain my pillow (washed right out!) Mostly out of concern for the cost of Xylimelts, I began putting only one in my mouth at bedtime. This has worked well for the most part, though some nights I still wake up with a dry mouth, and sometimes put in another one. This could be due to allergies though, my nose is often stuffy as I sleep. However, two would probably prevent this from happening.
I tried the non-mint kind first, then accidentally ordered the mint kind once, but I prefer the non-mint flavor. It’s got no real taste, and that suits me fine. By the way, it does take 10 seconds to adhere them, but if you are not comfortable with that spot, you can move them to a better one without them losing their “stick” to the outside of your teeth or gums.
