A Story-Based Introduction to the Qualities of Numbers

King Maximo and the Number Knights introduces the first twelve numbers through story, poetry, and imaginative exploration rather than rote counting. Written for children entering a Waldorf first grade, the book presents numbers as living qualities found in nature, daily life, and human experience.

In the story, King Maximo sends twelve knights on a quest to discover the “greatest” number. Each knight returns with a tale shaped by real-world observation—seasons, art, the body, and the natural world—revealing the unique character of their chosen number. Short poems and symbolic illustrations help gather each discovery into a memorable, meaningful whole.

Designed for Waldorf-Inspired Number Work

This is not a counting book and is not intended for toddlers or preschoolers. The language, themes, and structure are designed for children around ages 6–7, though many children ages 5–8 return to the stories with depth and interest. The book supports a story-centered approach to early mathematics, inviting connection across subjects through imagination rather than abstraction.

Continuing the Number Knights Stories

King Maximo and the Number Knights lays the imaginative groundwork for understanding the qualities of numbers. Families and teachers often continue this work with Sarah and the Number Knights, which builds on these foundations through more active number exploration, movement, and hands-on mathematical play, as well as Multiplicando, which lays the foundation for deeper multiplication work in later grades.

Perfect for the Price!
Color: Greige, Size: 13"D x 23.7"W x 32.7"H
The bar cart was very easy to put together. I can be "mechanically challenged" and was able to do it myself LOL It's nice and sturdy, the wheels roll smooth when you move it. The size is perfect for the small wall I have it against. I have several bottles of liquor and bartending mixer set on top, and about 20 various glassware on the 2nd shelf. The bottom shelf is taller, and does let you stand larger bottles down there. The one racks will only for the smaller size, but does hold them well.

Decent bar cart, but very annoying assembly
Color: Marble White, Size: 13"D x 23.7"W x 32.7"H
I think it looks nice and is decent value, but this thing is a pain to put together. Instead of just sending 3 shelves, you get 6 pieces to connect together to make 3 shelves. On top of that - they don’t even really connect. It would be 1000x easier if they added a couple of wooden pegs to connect the 2 pieces together. Instead, you have to do a balancing act which is tedious as can be. I ended up super glueing 2 of the 3 shelves togethers after how annoying the first was, so I would highly recommend you do the same. The whole process of putting it together feels like a balancing act. For something so small, it’s about as annoying as possible to put together. Nearly every step requires you to balance something and screw it in. Most of this would be alleviated if, as I said, it was just 3 pieces for the shelves instead of 6. But, you get what you pay for. Overall, I can’t complain too much for the price and result, but I wasn’t a fan of building it. It’d also look a little nicer if each shelf didn’t have a crack going through it.

Very pretty
Color: Black, Color: Black
This sink caddy is very pretty. It is easy to use. It has slots for brushes and whatnot. Keep in mind that not all soap bottles will fit in it though. I had to adjust my soap bottle to fit, so it kind of took up space where I could have put a little more things that same space. If you have round sponges like the ones I have, they can fit where you put the soap dispenser. It just all depends on what size soap dispenser you have in there. The quality has been good so far. It's easy to clean the bottom of the tray. It simply just slides in and out. Very easy. I recommend this.
