It is a source book of Hawaiian cultural practices, concepts and beliefs which illustrate the wisdom and dignity contained in the cultural roots of every Hawaiian child.The Hawaiian lived for many years isolated from the rest of the world, with a viable culture that met the needs of a thriving, industrious and religious people. Then came the foreigner with his technology and Judeao-Christian culture. He saw the native beliefs as pagan and inferior, and superimposed his culture. In order to gain acceptance, avoid ridicule and disapproval, the Hawaiian gradually adapted to Western ways. However, he secretly hung on to some of the beliefs and ways of his own culture. The confusion in his sense of identity which resulted exists today. For many Hawaiian families today, only the negatives, often in garbled fashion, have persisted. This is complicated further by mergers or conflicts of Hawaiian convictions with other ethnic or religious precepts. Forgotten are the positives in the culture, such as: the importance of the family (‘ohana); the respect for seniors (kupuna); insuring harmonious interdependence within the ‘ohana through regular family therapy (ho‘oponopono); dealing with each successive layer of trouble (mahiki); forgiving fully and completely (mihi); and freeing each other completely (kala). It is this knowledge that the Hawaiian needs to recapture.
The objectives of this work are to provide factual information as accurately as possible in a subject that reaches back to unwritten history and legend, to clarify Hawaiian concepts, and to examine their applicability to modern life. Volume I culminates seven years of weekly meetings of study and research by the Culture Committee of the Queen Liliuokalani Childrens Center, a child welfare agency created by the Deed of Trust of Her Majesty Queen Liliuokalani, to provide services to children of Hawaiian and part-Hawaiian ancestry. This committee was started when, in our work with children and families, many Hawaiian concepts, beliefs and practices emerged. Our staff, confronted by these deeply felt beliefs, felt uncomfortable, and as a result avoided discussion and exploration, even though this hampered successful work in resolving family conflicts. This pointed to our need to learn and understand the authentic Hawaiian culture in order to increase our effectiveness in helping those we serve.
We are fortunate that Mrs. Mary Kawena Pukui, associate of the Bishop Museum, translator and author, agreed to be our kumu (this also means teacher). Her belief in our sincere wish to help our people and her recognition that cultural information was of great value, were the motivating factors behind her sharing her knowledge with us. She did express her concern that the concepts in this book not be misused or misunderstood to cause her people embarrassment. (For example, she was once severely criticized for writing an article on ho‘oponopono.) She believes the Hawaiian needs to understand and appreciate the soundness and beauty of his culture. We are deeply indebted to the contributions of Mrs. Pukui. Without her, this work could not have been done.

Great Bang for the Buck!

These R50 Studio Monitors are worth every penny. One could easily spend a heck of a lot more to get less. Have been a pro audio engineer my entire life. These monitors kick out clean, solid bass and accurate highs. Klipsch did a excellent job designing these monitors. Perfect for smail spaces where fidelity is critical. If you wall mount these, make sure you leave at least a 1.5 inch air gap between the back of the monitor and the wall. These units are sweet.

Worth the price

THE BEST SPEAKERS

These speakers are the best sounding bookshelf speakers i ever saw or heard. The sound from them is clear even from a cheap crosley suitcase record player and the bass is just awesome because you can actually hear it and it ties my songs together when i can actually hear the baseline. They work extremely well independent of a separate subwoofer because the bass is very strong!
Another point of praise is that the decibel count is very high at 93 which means on very low power they perform loudly. Even on low volume from my Aiyima A07 Premium amplifier, they can be heard throughout my house.
They look so cool and appear to be very high quality build and strength. They can be used for whatever you want (provided your amp is compliant) they're super easy to set up because all you do you just attach the sticky rubber feet on the bottoms and the grilles are magnetic for whatever aesthetics youre going for. Definitely worth the money (i bought them on sale for $230) very top notch speakers!

Very good speakers

The r51ms are used to compliment my klipsch rp500m speakers and a 12 inch subwoofer in a large living room. By placing the r51m speakers to the outside walls , and the rp500m speakers to the interior, closer to the amplifier, and with the subwoofer set on deep bass only at just enough volume to barely compliment the sound, the large living room is more than sufficiently covered with at least true high fi quality sound, if not true budget audiophile sound. My entire 2.1 system is all klipsch. That's how I want it.
I am using them with a high powered tube amplifier, so presence and clarity is awesome. Placement is critical. I was initially disappointed until I switched the r51ms to the spread to the outside walls position, and the rp500ms to the interior, closer to the amplifier. The difference was remarkable. The 2 different klipsch speakers, ie one a rp and the other a r series blend together perfectly with no clash whatsoever because of somewhat more refined sound on the rp500m speakers. The rp500m speakers do sound higher end , but they are supposed to, but with the speakers as outer r51m and inner rp500m, and the klipsch subwoofer at deep bass with just a touch of volume the result is sound of such quality that I can honestly say I can be content and satisfied with it. I can say my system is complete, and no further improvement, upgrades are needed. Tower speakers as primaries are not necessary because of the high quality of sound and the high sensitivity of the 4 klipsch bookshelf speakers and klipsch subwoofer. This saves me money during this rapid inflation period of time. I could easily say that what I have sounds more than good enough to be satisfied and content with without any desire to upgrade further at this point.
Shipping speed was excellent via Amazon itself, and the box and speakers arrived in handled with care and new condition.
I am not disappointed at all now that the r51m speakers are the outside speakers, spread apart from corner wall to wall to compliment the interior placements of my rp500m speakers by klipsch. Im all klipsch here and I love it. 5 stars categorically. As previously stated, I see no need for primary tower speakers, even in a large living room, and that equals high quality sound and savings of money at the same time. I recommend these speakers. They do more than just do sound quality wise.
