HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the legendary British fighter, designed by R.J. Mitchell and introduced to the Royal Air Force in the late 1930s. No. 19 (Fighter) Squadron, based at RAF Duxford, was the first operational RAF unit to receive the Spitfire Mk.I, taking delivery of the type in August 1938. The squadron quickly transitioned from the Gloster Gauntlet biplane, learning to exploit the Spitfire’s speed, firepower, and handling.
