The original AK-74 was still a wooden AK with fixed stock and no solutions for the mounting of optical sights. In 1991 the AK-74MN was introduced, which replaced the wooden bits with more durable polymer furniture, including a side folding stock, and added a AK-family dovetail for side-mounted optics mounts.
