COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Best Practice in Cleaning NDIS Participants' Homes course. This program is designed to equip disability support workers and cleaning professionals with the essential skills, knowledge, and standards required to provide safe, respectful, and effective cleaning services in the homes of NDIS participants.

Maintaining a clean and hygienic home is critical not only for comfort but also for the health, wellbeing, and independence of individuals living with disability. This course begins by highlighting the importance of cleaning in disability support, explains relevant NDIS standards, and clarifies the role of support workers in fostering safe and supportive home environments.

Health and safety must always be prioritised during cleaning tasks. This section introduces common cleaning-related hazards and teaches how to use equipment and chemicals safely. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and good hygiene practices are reinforced to prevent harm to both workers and participants.

Effective cleaning begins with respectful communication. This section emphasises the importance of seeking permission before beginning tasks, understanding participant preferences, and clearly explaining cleaning activities without overstepping personal boundaries or autonomy.

Different surfaces require different techniques. This section provides practical guidance for cleaning hard floors, carpets, walls, windows, and blinds, ensuring that all surfaces are maintained safely and appropriately, with care for different materials and household layouts.

Kitchens are high-risk areas for hygiene. This section covers how to clean countertops, sinks, and appliances, manage food waste safely, and prevent cross-contamination in food preparation zones—vital for participants’ health and safety.

Bathrooms demand particular attention to hygiene. This section addresses the cleaning and disinfecting of toilets, sinks, and showers, outlines strategies to prevent mould and mildew, and covers the safe disposal of bathroom waste to maintain sanitary conditions.

Living areas and bedrooms must be clean and comfortable. This section explores best practices for dusting, vacuuming, laundering linens, and keeping spaces organised to promote wellbeing and reduce hazards in frequently used areas.

Laundry tasks are often included in support roles. This section guides workers in sorting, washing, and drying clothing, addressing stains, and properly folding and storing laundry while maintaining hygienic and efficient practices.

Cleaning in shared living environments presents unique challenges. This section outlines approaches to managing group cleaning duties, resolving conflicts, and maintaining fairness and consistency in shared areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Infection control is a core aspect of NDIS home cleaning. This section highlights infection risks, details disinfection of high-touch areas, and outlines steps to prevent the spread of illnesses in participant homes, especially among those with compromised health.

Support must be tailored to individual needs. This section teaches how to adapt cleaning for participants with mobility limitations, sensory processing issues, and respiratory concerns, ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity are upheld at all times.

Sometimes, emergency cleaning is required. This section prepares workers to respond to urgent situations such as spills, bodily fluids, water damage, or pest infestations, including how to safely manage biohazards with minimal disruption to participants.

Effective waste management contributes to safety and sustainability. This section explains how to segregate and dispose of general and hazardous waste, apply recycling practices, and manage sharp objects or chemical disposal in line with guidelines.

Respect and dignity must underpin all cleaning tasks. This section provides strategies for cleaning in intimate spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms, how to minimise intrusion, and how to respect cultural, personal, and religious preferences.

Manual handling and physical safety are essential for worker wellbeing. This section teaches safe techniques for lifting, bending, and reaching, and encourages the use of equipment to reduce strain and prevent injury during physical cleaning tasks.

Support workers play a key role in identifying household risks. This section explores how to recognise unsafe or unclean environments, report concerns like mould or infestations, and follow procedures for escalating issues in accordance with organisational policy.

Accurate documentation ensures transparency and safety. This section guides workers in recording completed tasks, reporting hazards or maintenance needs, and meeting NDIS documentation requirements with clarity and professionalism.

By the end of this course, you will be confident in applying best practices for cleaning NDIS participants’ homes, promoting hygiene, safety, respect, and participant choice—while meeting the standards required by the NDIS and broader community expectations.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Oversized
Size: Queen (Pack of 2), Color: White
I have chronic neck pain. I am forever buying new pillows. Sometimes I think I found the perfect pillow but then three months later they’re losing their loft. I thought I would give these pillows to try since the stuffing is removable. Now these pillows are really oversized. To the point where I thought that they had sent me king-size pillows but I double checked the packaging and they were Queen. I ended up having to buy king-size pillowcases for them because they just barely fit in the queen size and the pillowcases would always end up pulling back from the edge. So that’s a negative one star there. Now I’ve been sleeping on these pillows for a while and they have held up well. I did end up removing some of the stuffing because it was just too much. I’m a side sleeper and when I use this pillow, it does a good job of keeping my neck in alignment. However, the pillow tends to migrate up as I sleep. Or I tend to slip down off the pillow, either or. So that’s why I’ve removed a second star. Maybe if I removed more stuffing that wouldn’t happen, but then I feel like the loft would be too little. I will say that these provide great support when sitting up in bed reading or watching TV. So would I buy them again? Probably not. Am I going to keep using them? Yes

Amazing - Stop Scrolling and Buy This Pillow
Size: Queen (Pack of 1), Color: White
I have been an Amazon customer ever since the very beginning, and this is my first review. Not because I haven’t purchased tons of amazing things (and a few bad ones), just never felt the need. However, I researched pillows for longer than I care to admit, and decided on this one. I’ve had it for about six months and absolutely love it. No lie, I genuinely look forward lying my big head on it after a long day. I am a side sleeper, but flip flop all around through the night and it’s great in every position. Pros: Stays nice and cool, which is soothing regardless of the time of year. Has a sort of quilted textured pattern on the zip up cover, gives it a luxury feel, that breaths nicely even when a pillow case is added. The fill is fully adjustable to your preference. I knew it came with extra filling but was worried it would not be enough. Wrong. It was very full and I ended up taking some out until it was perfect. It comes vacuum sealed and suggests it may take some time to fully take shape. However, I found it to be about 90% almost instantly and was sleeping on it a couple hours later. There was no unpleasant scent sometimes associated with memory foam items. The foam itself is very nice, a mix of what appears to be shredded and cotton candy cloud like. Very brilliant idea, as it is somehow supportive, soft and firm all at once. The affordability of this pillow compared to some of the others in this category can’t be overstated. Oh, and the packaging was very thoughtfully and securely done. If you are like me, an over thinker, I would suggest just taking this for a spin. It’s amazing. I’m not a bot, or working for the company. I’m just truly satisfied, love this pillow, and have been sleeping great.

It's the perfect pillow!
Size: Queen (Pack of 1), Color: White
I purchased this pillow specifically for its customizable fill feature, which allows you to add or remove stuffing to suit your personal comfort needs. Due to the unique curvature of my cervical spine—forward at the neck rather than backward—I require a soft, semi-flat pillow rather than one that is thick or firm. Additionally, I often experience ear discomfort by morning, so a gentler surface is essential. Upon adjusting the fill, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of stuffing included. There was enough to fill an additional pillowcase, and I estimate it could easily create four to five more pillows. The ability to modify the pillow’s firmness at any time is an outstanding feature that makes it adaptable for a wide range of preferences and sleep styles. This pillow has exceeded my expectations in both comfort and versatility. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a personalized sleep experience.

Good quality pillows overall
Size: King (Pack of 2), Color: White
Got a set of these for my wife and myself as we were struggling with our old pillows. These have some really good qualities and some things we'd like to see changed. First, the good: These are look and feel like they are high quality and made with good materials. The foam itself has a very nice feel to it. We love the fact they are adjustable to add or remove foam. They come with a pretty substantial amount already in the pillow. We appreciate the CertiPur certification. Now the improvements or changes we'd like to see: The foam, while feeling great, doesn't bounce back well if you scrunch your pillows, and so every day you have to fluff and reshape the pillow, moreso than some other memory foam pillows we've owned. One side of the pillow is cooled and you can feel that even through the pillow case, and that's a great thing. However, one side is not cooled and we'd have preferred if both sides were made of the cooling material. Overall, these are good pillows and we are not disappointed with the purchase. They are not, however, our perfect pillows (which do seem hard to find), and at some point in the future will probably make their way to the guest bedroom. We would rate them as some of the better pillows we've tried and feel most people would probably like them.

Perfect Pillow
Size: Queen (Pack of 1), Color: White
These are the best pillows ever. You can adjust the firmness or softness to whatever you want. For years i used a soft latex pillow , which you cant get anymore. I will never use another pillow. I have purchased 6 of these after the first one. You pick your own comfort level. Best ever. No more neck aches.
