About the Workshop:

This online class at Center for Book Arts is taught by Instructor Ellen Sheffield. This workshop will focus on non-traditional approaches to developing original content for artist’s books. A wide range of research tools will first be demonstrated to jump start ideas for projects. From these research seeds participants will respond to writing prompts and engage in experimental creative writing techniques to grow these ideas into prototypes for artist’s books. Processes will be taught for getting text onto the pages of simple folded book structures including alternative mark making, transfers, rub-on type, stencils, rubber stamps and pressure printing. This workshop is for visual artists who want to expand their writing skills and for writers who want to explore the artist book as a time-based medium and go beyond their usual writing practice.

There are a total of 12 spots open in this small-group workshop.

  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper
  • Cutting tool (scissors or snap-off knife)

About Ellen Sheffield

Ellen Sheffield’s works on paper and artist’s books combine text and image in unexpected ways. Her interest in juxtaposing visual techniques—materials, design, mark-making, and printing processes—with written language—essays, poetry, and hybrid writing—drives Sheffield’s collaborations with other artists and writers including Lewis Hyde, Fanny Howe, and Andrew Grace. Recently Sheffield’s work has explored language about loss and color  - this new work was exhibited at the CODEX International Biennial Book Art Fair in February.  After completing 14 years of teaching Book Arts in the Kenyon College Art Department she moved to the SF Bay Area and continues to teach virtual workshops for arts centers around the country. Okay for the price
Size: XX-Large, Color: Denim Blue
The product was light and compact for packing for an Alaska cruise. It was also sufficiently warm and relatively rain resistant. But on the second day of wearing, the zipper blew out. I was able to fix for a short while, but in the end, I couldn’t use it.

Quality meets style
Color: White, Size: Large, Color: White, Size: Large
This is an Oxford button-down dress shirt that is a great example of quality craftsmanship paired with classic style. The 50% polyester and 50% cotton fabric has a nice substantial weight to it that feels durable without being too heavy, making it perfect for a polished summer look. The detailed design around the collar adds a subtle touch of casual sophistication, and the chest pocket keeps it practical and versatile. The construction is impressive, with securely attached buttons that reinforce the overall sense of durability. I also appreciated the inclusion of two extra button which is a thoughtful and useful addition. The size large did run a bit snug so I’ll be ordering the next size up. This is a well-made shirt, of a quality-feel material. This brand continues to deliver on both quality and style, and the price feels more than fair for what you’re getting. Overall, a very nice summer dress shirt that I’d gladly recommend.

Good quality but know Sizes run small so size up when ordering if you are a US customer. Also chest is tight even when sizing up.
